Is Vinted legit: store ratings, buyer and seller protection and common complaints for US members

Yes, Vinted is a legitimate company, and an order paid with the "Buy now" button is covered by a written refund policy. It is not risk-free, though, and the public reviews of it are sharply split. Vinted was founded in Lithuania in 2008, reported a profit for 2025, and has had its app listed on the US App Store since April 2013. As of October 23, 2026, its US App Store rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 556,538 ratings, while its Trustpilot page scores 1.2 out of 5 from 24,252 reviews. Both are real, and neither is the whole picture. The most repeated complaints are account bans without a clear explanation, scams between members, and support that reviewers describe as automated. This guide gives you the numbers with their dates and sources, what Vinted's own rules promise, and how to cut your risk as a buyer or a seller.

Vinteer is not affiliated with Vinted. Ratings and review counts change every day, so each one below carries the date we read it. Rules come from Vinted's own Help Center and terms, linked in each section and read on October 23, 2026. We cannot verify any individual review, and we say so where it matters.

Is Vinted legit? The short answers

QuestionIs Vinted a real company?
Short answerYes. Founded in 2008, run today by Vinted Group, with a US entity, Vinted, Inc., registered in Delaware.
QuestionIs it a scam site?
Short answerNo. It is an established marketplace that pays sellers and refunds buyers under written rules. Individual members, however, do scam other members.
QuestionIs buying protected?
Short answerYes, if you pay with "Buy now". You have 2 calendar days after the delivery notice to report a problem. Payments outside the app are not covered.
QuestionIs selling protected?
Short answerPartly. Payment is held until the order completes, and lost or damaged parcels can be compensated up to $100 on USPS and FedEx labels. Sellers also report refund disputes and bans they found unfair.
QuestionAre the reviews good?
Short answerDepends where you look: 4.9 on the US App Store, 4.5 on Google Play, 1.2 on Trustpilot.
QuestionWhat do people complain about most?
Short answerAccount bans, scams, and hard-to-reach support, based on the public reviews we read.

Who is behind Vinted, and since when in the US?

Vinted's own About page says it started in 2008 in Lithuania, when founder Milda Mitkute was moving and had too many clothes, and Justas Janauskas built a website to give them away. It says more than 2,000 people work from its headquarters in Lithuania and offices across Europe, and that its investors include Accel, Burda Principal Investments, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Sprints.

Its 2025 results release (April 9, 2026) reports €10.8 billion in goods traded across the group, €1.1 billion in revenue and a net profit of €62 million. Those are group-wide figures, mostly European, not a measure of the US business. A later newsroom headline (April 27, 2026) announced a secondary share transaction at an €8 billion equity valuation. For how the company earns that revenue, see how Vinted makes money.

The US is a newer story for most Americans. The Vinted app has been listed on the US App Store since April 2013 (release date April 11, 2013, in Apple's public search listing), but the company announced its US expansion from New York on January 22, 2026. In the US, the contract you accept is with Vinted, Inc., which its User Terms describe as registered in Delaware, with an address in Wilmington. A company with a profit, a legal entity and a published rulebook is a legitimate business. It says little, on its own, about how a given order will go.

Rating1.2 out of 5, labeled "Bad"
Volume24,252 reviews
What it covers61% give 1 star and 30% give 5 stars; reviewers from several countries

Two things are worth taking from this table. First, the ratings do not measure the same population. The Apple figure is limited to the US store, the Google Play listing is global, and the Trustpilot page for vinted.com mixes countries: on the review pages we opened, reviewers were labeled US, UK, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and Hungary. None of the three is a count of US orders that went well or badly.

Second, the Trustpilot split is unusual. Only 9% of its reviews sit between 2 and 4 stars (3% each), against 61% at 1 star and 30% at 5. People tend to write on a review site either to complain or to praise, which tells you who writes there. It does not tell you the share of Vinted orders that fail. Equally, a 4.9 app rating comes from people who stayed in the app long enough to rate it, which leaves out those who were banned or gave up. Treat each number as a signal, and read the content behind it.

How reviews work on Vinted itself

Members also rate each other. Per Vinted's feedback help page, star ratings and comments can be left only after an order is completed, and only between members who traded, which is why the star average on a profile is based on real orders. Three details matter when you read one:

  • Automatic feedback exists. If a buyer leaves nothing within 4 days, the seller gets positive automatic feedback. If an item is not shipped on time, or if either member cancels the order, the member who canceled or missed the deadline gets automatic negative feedback. A seller's average therefore includes entries nobody wrote by hand.
  • Vinted does not review feedback before it is published. It edits or removes only automatic feedback or feedback that breaks its Community Standards or the law, such as sharing private information or harassment.
  • A canceled order can leave a negative mark. Vinted suggests agreeing on a cancellation with the other member first so both can edit the automatic feedback.

When you shop, open the seller's Reviews tab, look at how recent the entries are, and read the written comments rather than only the average.

What reviewers complain about most

We looked at two public sources for the pattern of complaints, both on October 23, 2026.

US App Store reviews. Low-star reviews posted on October 20 and 21, 2026 in Apple's public customer reviews feed (read on October 23) often mention account bans, suspected scams and slow support. This is our reading of a small, recent sample, not a study, so we give no counts.

Trustpilot. Trustpilot's automated summary, based on 3,558 reviews, highlights automated customer support with no human contact, defective merchandise, unclear refund processes and unexpected account bans. The 1-star reviews we read raised the same topics: unexplained account suspensions or permanent bans, refunds denied after a claim, parcels that did not arrive or were left in the wrong place, and counterfeit or damaged items. The 5-star reviews praised low prices, ease of use, fast sales for sellers and the sense that payment is secure.

What these complaints do and do not show

They show where the friction is. Bans and support are the two themes that keep coming back, and they matter for sellers in particular because an account ban can freeze a stock of listings. They do not show how often it happens. Nobody outside Vinted knows the share of members who get banned, and Vinted publishes no US figure. A review also gives one side of a dispute. Some banned members may have broken a rule they did not read, and some bans may well be mistakes, which is why an appeal exists. Two of the App Store reviews we read describe Vinted reversing a counterfeit flag after the seller sent proof or appealed, though one of them says the account was banned anyway two days later. Both outcomes seem to occur, and we cannot tell you the ratio.

How Vinted protects buyers

Vinted's protection is tied to one rule: you must pay inside the app. According to its refund policy, the policy applies to purchases made with the "Buy now" button. If you pay outside Vinted's system, you "won't be covered," and Vinted says it can't offer support.

What the policy covers, and how it works:

  • Eligible problems. An order that was never shipped or is lost, that arrived damaged, or that is significantly not as described.
  • The clock. After Vinted tells you the order should have been delivered, you have 2 calendar days to press "I have an issue." If you say nothing, or press "Everything is OK," the payment goes to the seller.
  • Your money while it is disputed. Per Vinted's pending balance page, payments are held by its payment provider until the order is completed. A reported order is suspended and the money stays held until the issue is resolved.
  • Evidence. You should photograph the item, the problem and the outer and inner packaging, and keep the packaging until it is resolved.
  • Returns. In many cases you must send the item back within 5 business days of the seller's request. Buyers pay return shipping unless the seller provides a label. An item that matches its listing but doesn't fit or suit you isn't eligible.
  • Counterfeits. Through the counterfeit process you send photos and Vinted says it will reply within 48 hours. If there is strong evidence the item is fake, it cancels the order and refunds you without a return. If it sees no strong evidence, it treats the item as authentic and releases the payment.

The cost of this is the Vinted fee, which the fee page says is usually 5% + $0.70 and is shown in the price breakdown and at checkout. The buyer pays it, and sellers pay no selling fee. Our Vinted fees guide and the free Vinted fee calculator show what that means at different prices.

The limits are real. Vinted's safety page says "you can reach out to us 24/7," while many Trustpilot and App Store reviewers say they could not reach a person. Those two statements are both on the record, and we can't reconcile them. Vinted's phishing page also states it can't be held responsible for losses from scams or phishing, which is one more reason to keep every step inside the app.

How Vinted protects sellers

The seller side follows the same logic: money moves through Vinted, and Vinted decides what to do when an order goes wrong. Vinted's seller safety page says sellers are supported only when buyers pay through Vinted.

  • Payment timing. The buyer's payment sits in your pending balance. Once the buyer presses "Everything is OK," or 2 days after they receive the order without reporting anything, the order is completed and you are paid within 2 days (getting paid). A bank withdrawal then takes up to 5 business days (withdrawals). Our guide on how to get paid on Vinted walks through it.
  • Identity checks. To sell you activate a Vinted Wallet, which asks for your name, birth date, address and a partial Social Security number and/or an ID. Vinted says the wallet is provided by Adyen. Its help page says to verify within 5 business days of your first sale and before you ship, while its User Terms say within 5 calendar days; activate the Wallet before your first sale, and if you don't, the order is canceled. Some reviewers describe these checks as a hurdle.
  • Shipping deadline. You have 5 business days to ship, with extensions of 3 or 5 business days if the buyer agrees (help). Late shipping leads to cancellation and negative automatic feedback.
  • Lost or damaged parcels. With a Vinted label, compensation is up to $100 on USPS or FedEx and up to $15 on SpeedX, only after the carrier confirms the loss and if the item was packed properly (compensation). Vinted adds that investigations can take several weeks. See Vinted shipping explained.
  • Buyer disputes. If a buyer suspends an order and you disagree, you have 14 days to submit a dispute (suspended orders). Keep your shipping receipt and photograph the packed item, as Vinted itself recommends.
  • Fees. Vinted says there are no selling fees, so sellers keep the full sale price. Shipping is paid by the buyer, and new sellers' first three sales ship free (shipping costs, updated October 9, 2026).

On balance, sellers who list their own items, ship on time with the Vinted label and keep proof are the ones the system is built to pay. Reviewers who describe disputes or bans most often say the decision went against them, and we cannot check either side. Keeping proof of packing and shipping is the best protection Vinted points to. Account bans and restrictions: what Vinted says

Since bans are the most repeated complaint, here is what Vinted's banned account page says. We describe the rules, not any specific case.

  • Temporary bans last 7 to 30 days and cover offensive behavior, inappropriate pictures, repeatedly selling prohibited items, selling counterfeits, promoting selling outside Vinted's payment system, and selling items for commercial purposes.
  • Permanent bans cover fraud or scamming, multiple accounts, repeatedly selling counterfeits, selling live pets, repeatedly breaking the Catalog Rules and repeatedly selling for commercial purposes, among others.
  • Locks. Vinted may lock an account at your request or automatically if it notices suspicious activity, to protect it from misuse.
  • Appeals. The appeal link is in the moderation message. You can appeal once, within 6 months of the decision. The help page also mentions certified out-of-court dispute bodies and national courts, wording that appears to follow European rules; for US members, the User Terms include a binding arbitration clause, covered below.
  • Withdrawals. A permanently banned member can still contact Vinted and, in some cases, withdraw wallet earnings. Vinted says withdrawals may not be possible if they pose a risk to other members, involve a compromised account or the ban is due to a fraud risk, as decided by its payment provider.

Reviewers write that bans arrived within days of joining and without a reason they understood. The page tells you that you should receive an official moderation decision with an appeal link, and that a message saying the account is "under review" should be resolved shortly. If you are banned, use that appeal, include evidence and keep your messages polite. Do not open a second account, since multiple accounts are a listed reason for a permanent ban.

Vinted US is for personal items, not resale for profit

Vinted's commercial selling rules say standard accounts can't be used to sell items professionally, which "includes buying or sourcing items and reselling them at a profit," and Vinted Pro is not currently available in the US. A September 24, 2026 Q&A from its Trust & Safety lead says that selling a lot does not make you a business, but that buying items to sell them on at a profit does. Commercial selling is also a listed reason for temporary and permanent bans. Sell items you own and no longer need. See Vinted Pro in the US for the full picture. Vinteer is not affiliated with Vinted.

Scams on Vinted and how to avoid them

Scams are the second pillar of the complaints, and Vinted's phishing and scam page is the best official reference. It lists real phishing messages members received: in-app messages asking you to email someone, open a link or scan a QR code, fake emails asking you to click to confirm a sale, texts to your phone, and fake Vinted support websites asking for payment details.

What you seeA member asks you to chat on another app, email them, open a link or scan a QR code
What to doStay on Vinted. Vinted says to avoid leaving the app to contact others or send payments.
What you seeA message that rushes you, or says your account or order will be blocked unless you act now
What to doTreat the urgency as the warning sign. Don't open the link.
What you seeA buyer or seller offers to take payment outside "Buy now"
What to doSay no. Outside payments are not covered by the refund policy.
What you seeAn email or text that claims to be Vinted
What to doReal Vinted emails come from an address ending in @vinted.com. Forward phishing to phishing@vinted.com.
What you seeA request for your email, phone number or address in a chat
What to doYou don't need to share them to complete a purchase. Vinted uses the details in your profile.
What you seeA parcel with a wrong item, an empty box or something damaged
What to doDon't press "Everything is OK." Press "I have an issue" within 2 days and send photos of the item and packaging.
What you seeA branded item at a price that seems too good
What to doIf you doubt the item after delivery, press "Provide proof" and send the photos Vinted asks for (whole item, suspicious parts, care label, serial number).
What you seeA buyer claims your item arrived damaged or different
What to doRespond with your packing photos and shipping receipt, and dispute within 14 days if you disagree.

If you have been scammed, Vinted's steps are to report it with screenshots, the member's username, the sender's contact details and any bank transfer details, then to freeze affected cards, change passwords and add multi-factor authentication, check with your bank whether a payment can be reversed, and call the police if money left your bank account.

The fine print US members should read

You accept Vinted's User Terms when you sign up, and three parts shape what "protected" means in practice:

  • Vinted is a host, not a party to your deal. The terms say that as a hosting provider Vinted doesn't buy or sell items and isn't a party to transactions, and that it doesn't guarantee the quality, safety or legality of listings. Its refund policy is a commitment on top of that, with the conditions described above.
  • Arbitration. The terms contain a binding arbitration agreement with a class action and jury trial waiver, governed by Delaware law, unless you opt out within 30 days using the form they provide. Small claims court is carved out. Read this section before you decide, and ask a lawyer if you need advice.
  • Taxes. Vinted says it isn't responsible for tax liabilities or reporting obligations that apply to you because of your activity on the site. Our 1099-K guide covers that. General information, not tax advice.

Is Vinted worth it for you?

It makes sense for a buyer if you shop for everyday second-hand items, always use "Buy now", inspect the parcel before confirming and are comfortable photographing a problem within 2 days. Check with your card issuer or bank what protections it offers, as Vinted points out that its refund policy applies only to "Buy now" purchases.

It makes sense for a seller if you are clearing out your own wardrobe, want no selling fee and can follow the rules to the letter: accurate photos and descriptions, authentic items only, shipping within 5 business days, everything inside the app. Compare it with other places to sell in Vinted vs Poshmark, Vinted vs Depop, Vinted vs Mercari and Vinted vs eBay, and see what sells best on Vinted.

Think twice if you need a guaranteed human response, plan to sell high-value items without receipts, or need predictable income. Reviewers, and the platform's own rules, show that one bad dispute or one moderation decision can cost you an order or an account.

New to the platform? How Vinted works for sellers walks through listing, shipping and payment.

Keep your own records, whatever the platform

Because disputes are won with evidence, keep a record of each sale: the listing, the photos, the shipping receipt, and what you earned. When Vinteer opens in the US, it will import your Vinted and eBay sales and purchases so you can see sales, real profit and stock in one place.
