eBay fee calculator. What do you actually keep?

On most categories, eBay takes 13.6% of the total sale plus $0.40 per order: $7.20 on a $50 sale and $14.00 on a $100 sale, with no shipping charge and no sales tax. Both count in the total sale and raise the fee. Fill in the sentence below to see the exact fees for your category and what you keep after your costs.

The calculator covers sellers without an eBay Store. It leaves out optional listing upgrades such as Bold, the $20 dispute fee and currency conversion charges. Your monthly financial statement on eBay is the final word.

Sales tax is part of the amount eBay applies its percentage to. In eBay's own example a $400 item with 6% sales tax is a $424 sale, the fee is worked out on $424, and the seller makes $341.59: the tax is not paid out to you. Your buyer's rate depends on their state, so the calculator starts at 0%: enter the rate your typical buyer pays. The rate is applied to the item price and the shipping you charge.

The same sale on Vinted: $0 seller fees

At the same price, Vinted charges the seller no fee: the buyer pays the Vinted fee and the shipping label. You would keep $63.50 before taxes, against $41.50 on eBay. Price and demand differ between the two, so compare both for your item.

How eBay selling fees work in the US

Figures from eBay's own selling fees page, read on November 7, 2026.

  1. Final value fee: a percentage of the total sale

eBay charges one final value fee when your item sells, and you do not have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. It is a percentage of the total amount of the sale plus a per-order fee. In most categories the percentage is 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35% on the portion over $7,500, worked out per item.

  2. Per-order fee: $0.30 or $0.40

The per-order fee is $0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10.00. An order is any number of items bought by the same buyer at checkout with the same shipping method. Athletic shoes sold for $150 or more are the exception: eBay charges no per-order fee on them.

  3. Shipping and sales tax count

The total amount of the sale includes the item price, handling charges, shipping costs collected from the buyer (some exceptions apply), sales tax and any other applicable fees. A buyer's sales tax therefore raises your fee even though you never receive it.

  4. Insertion fees: 250 free listings a month

Every month you get up to 250 zero insertion fee listings, or more with an eBay Store. After that, an insertion fee of $0.35 applies per listing in most categories. It is not refunded if the item does not sell.

  5. Extra fees: seller level and international buyers

A Below Standard account pays an additional 6% on sales in the following month (7% after four consecutive months), and a Very High rate of "Item not as described" returns adds 5% (6% after four months). Above Standard and Top Rated sellers do not pay the Below Standard fee. When the buyer is outside the US and you do not use eBay International Shipping, an international fee of 1.65% of the total sale applies.

  6. Top Rated Plus: 10% off the final value fee

Listings with the Top Rated Plus seal, which means same- or one-business-day handling and free returns for 30 days or more, get a 10% discount on the final value fee. eBay calculates it on the total amount of the sale, including shipping and sales tax. It does not apply to the per-order fee or to the additional fee for a Very High rate of "Item not as described" returns, and it is only available to sellers who live in the US. A Top Rated seller whose listing does not meet the Top Rated Plus terms gets no discount: pick "Above Standard / Top Rated" for those.

  7. What this calculator leaves out

eBay Store subscribers, vehicles on eBay Motors, real estate, NFTs and a few heavy equipment categories have their own fees. Promoted Listings General ad fees are a percentage of the total amount of the sale, the same amount as the final value fee: enter the ad rate you chose.

Final value fee rates by category

The percentage depends on the category and, in some of them, on the size of the sale. Every row also pays the per-order fee unless it says otherwise. Read on November 7, 2026.
