The Vinted selling flow in the US: list, sell, ship with a prepaid label, get paid

How does Vinted work for sellers? You list an item for free, a buyer pays through Vinted's checkout, Vinted gives you a prepaid shipping label, and you ship within 5 business days. Once the buyer confirms the item (or 2 days pass without a complaint), the money moves from your pending balance to your Vinted Wallet and you can withdraw it to your US bank account. Vinted charges sellers no selling fee: the buyer pays the item price, shipping, and a separate Vinted fee, usually 5% + $0.70.

That is the short version for anyone new to Vinted USA. The rest of this guide walks through each step with the details that trip up new US sellers: how to activate your Wallet, what you can and cannot sell, how offers and bundles work, who pays for what, how long payouts take, and which rules can get a listing hidden or an account restricted. Every number comes from Vinted's own Help Center and price list, read on October 22, 2026. Vinted changes its rules from time to time, so check the linked pages before you rely on a figure.

How Vinted works for sellers, in six steps

  1. Activate your Vinted Wallet. It is required to sell.
  2. List an item. Photos, title, description, category, brand, condition, price, package size.
  3. A buyer checks out. They use the "Buy now" button, pick a carrier, and pay. Your money sits in "Pending balance".
  4. Ship with the prepaid label. Vinted sends it to you. You have 5 business days.
  5. The buyer confirms delivery. They have 2 days to press "Everything is OK" or report a problem.
  6. Get paid. Within 2 days of the order being completed, the money moves to "Available balance". Spend it on Vinted or withdraw it.

Step 1: Set up your account and activate your Wallet

Create your account, then activate your Vinted Wallet before your first sale. The Wallet is run by the payment provider Adyen. You enter your full name, date of birth, address, and a partial Social Security number if applicable, and/or a copy of a passport, ID card, or driver's license if applicable (Vinted Help: Activate your Vinted Wallet).

If you skip it, you have until 5 business days after your first sale to verify, and you must do it before you send the item. Otherwise Vinted cancels the order (Vinted Help: Why you may be asked for your ID). Do it before you list, so your first sale is not at risk.

Two details worth knowing:

  • Vinted asks for your ZIP code when you upload your first item, because it uses your drop-off and delivery locations to calculate sales tax on the buyer's side.
  • Adyen can run extra identity checks (a document, or a bank statement at a higher tier) if you reach certain sales limits. Until you complete one, your withdrawals can be paused.

Step 2: List your first item

Vinted's upload form asks for the same things every time (Vinted Help: Uploading step by step):

  • Up to 20 photos
  • A title and a detailed description
  • A category, and the brand (or "No brand")
  • The true condition of the item
  • A competitive price
  • A package size

The form is simple, but the details decide whether you sell. Show every flaw in the photos and mention it in the description: if an item is significantly not as described, the buyer can return it for a refund. For certain categories such as designer goods, electronics and cosmetics, Vinted asks for at least 3 close-up photos of authenticity details such as labels, stitching, serial numbers, or a receipt (Vinted Help: How to take photos of branded items).

A few rules that save you trouble:

  • No duplicate listings. If you own several identical items, create one listing and say how many you have. For different sizes, photograph each size label.
  • Automatic check. A new listing may go through an automated review. It usually takes up to a minute, but in some cases it can take 3 or 4 days.
  • Sets. You can sell up to 5 items together in one listing. Buyers can also build their own bundles from your listings, up to 100 items per order.

Price with the buyer's total in mind: they pay your price plus shipping and the Vinted fee, which our guide to Vinted fees breaks down.

What can you sell on Vinted?

The main menu on vinted.com has nine top-level categories: Women, Men, Designer, Kids, Home, Electronics, Books & Media, Hobbies & collectibles, and Sports (Vinted: How it works). In practice that covers clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, kids' items, home goods, games and books, collectibles, and many electronics.

Vinted also publishes a long list of items you cannot sell (Vinted Help: Items not allowed on Vinted). Examples from that list:

  • Counterfeits and items that infringe intellectual property rights
  • Food, drinks, and other consumables
  • Vitamins, supplements, and medicinal products
  • Used cosmetics and underwear bottoms
  • Sharp knives and bladed tools
  • Cycling helmets and safety harnesses
  • Non-functioning electrical appliances and electronic devices with visible damage
  • Live animals and pets
  • Recalled products

Read the full list before you list anything unusual. Listings that break the rules get hidden or removed, and Vinted does not refund paid services such as Bumps for hidden or removed listings (Vinted Help: Listing was hidden or removed).

Pricing, offers and bundles

You set your price, and buyers can negotiate with the "Make an offer" feature (Vinted Help: Making an offer):

  • A buyer can offer up to 40% less than your price, and can send up to 25 offers per day.
  • You can accept, decline, or counter. You can also send an offer to someone who favorited your item or started a conversation, with no daily limit.
  • Offers are not binding for either side, and the item stays available to other buyers until someone presses "Buy now".
  • Offers only apply to the item price, not to shipping or fees.

To sell faster, Vinted itself suggests offering a discount to buyers who purchase more than one item, uploading regularly (your followers are notified of new items and price drops), using high-quality photos, and verifying your profile (Vinted Help: Selling your items faster). You can also buy an item Bump for more visibility in buyers' feeds, covered below.

Heading out of town? Vacation mode hides all your listings for up to 90 days, but it does not extend Bumps you already paid for (Vinted Help: Using vacation mode).

What you pay as a seller (and what buyers pay)

Selling on Vinted is free: there is no seller commission. The costs sit on the buyer's side and on optional services.

Sources: Vinted price list (last updated October 8, 2026) and Vinted Help: Vinted fee. Vinted says the exact fee depends on item characteristics, order value, and whether the order is a single item or a bundle, so treat 5% + $0.70 as the typical case.

Here is what that looks like on a $50 jacket, assuming the typical fee:

LineItem price

LineBuyer subtotal before shipping and tax

Because the buyer sees the total, a cheap-looking price with a high fee and shipping can still feel expensive. On a $10 item, the typical fee is $1.20, or 12% on top of the price. Our free Vinted fee calculator shows both sides of an order, and our deeper guide to Vinted fees covers Bumps, the buyer fee, and how Vinted makes money.

What about sales tax?

As of October 22, 2026, where marketplace facilitator laws apply, Vinted collects sales tax from the buyer and remits it. It is added on top of the buyer's order value and does not reduce your earnings. Vinted lists the states where it collects, and says that if you sell to a state where it does not collect and you exceed a nexus threshold there, you may have to handle collection and remittance yourself (Vinted Help: Sales tax on Vinted). General information, not tax advice.

Shipping: prepaid labels, 5 business days

Shipping on Vinted is paid by the buyer, and the buyer chooses the carrier at checkout from the options you have enabled (Vinted Help: How shipping works).

  • Carriers. USPS is available in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. FedEx, SpeedX and Better Trucks cover domestic shipping in the continental US, with SpeedX and Better Trucks limited to certain ZIP codes. USPS and SpeedX also handle US to UK orders (Vinted Help: Shipping routes and providers).
  • The label. After the sale, Vinted sends a prepaid label to your inbox and email. You must use it. If you use a different label or method, the order is canceled automatically (Vinted Help: Shipping on Vinted).
  • Drop-off. With USPS you can take a QR code to a post office, or schedule a home pick-up with a printed label (Vinted Help: USPS shipping).
  • Deadline. You have 5 business days to ship. You can ask the buyer to extend it by 3 or 5 more business days, and they can decline. If you miss the deadline, the order is canceled (Vinted Help: I can't send the item on time).
  • Transit. First-Class Package Service and Priority Mail typically take 1 to 3 business days (Vinted Help: Delivery time).

Pack the item properly and photograph the packed parcel, inside and out. If the buyer reports damage, those photos help, and Vinted says you may not receive compensation if you ignore its packing rules (Vinted Help: Packing an item).

If a package is lost or damaged, you may be compensated when three things are true: you used the Vinted label, you packed it properly, and the carrier confirmed the loss or damage. Domestic limits are up to $100 per package with USPS, up to $100 with FedEx, and up to $15 with SpeedX (Vinted Help: Compensation for sellers). For prices, package sizes and tips, read our Vinted shipping guide.

Getting paid: from pending balance to your bank

When a buyer pays, the money is held by Adyen as a "Pending balance" until the order is completed (Vinted Help: Pending balance). The order is completed when the buyer presses "Everything is OK", or 2 days after they receive the item without confirming or reporting a problem (Vinted Help: Getting paid for a completed sale).

Adding those windows up, expect roughly one to three weeks, and sometimes longer, between a sale and cash in your bank, depending on how fast you ship and when you withdraw. That is our own estimate, not a Vinted promise.

Withdrawing works like this (Vinted Help: Withdraw your earnings):

  • You withdraw in US dollars to a US bank account using the account and routing numbers.
  • The minimum withdrawal is $0.10.
  • You cannot use the same bank account for withdrawals from two Vinted accounts: if you do, the withdrawals fail.
  • Money you do not withdraw is applied to your next purchase on Vinted automatically.

Buyer protection, refunds and what sellers should know

Vinted's refund policy covers purchases made with the "Buy now" button. A buyer can ask for a refund if the order never shipped or is lost, arrived damaged, or is significantly not as described, and has 2 calendar days to report it (Vinted Help: Vinted Refund Policy). Items that simply do not fit or suit the buyer are not covered, and neither are minor differences from the listing.

For you, that means three habits: describe the item honestly, pack it well, and keep the conversation and payment inside Vinted. If a buyer asks you to pay or ship outside the platform, you lose the protection. Vinted says that on its side it handles secure payment, protects your financial data, helps with issues, and applies the refund policy fairly (Vinted Help: Seller's safety and support).

Ratings and feedback

After an order completes, buyer and seller can each leave a star rating. If the buyer does not leave feedback within 4 days, the seller gets an automatic positive review. If you ship late or cancel an order, you get automatic negative feedback, which is why you should tell the buyer before canceling so you can both edit it (Vinted Help: Feedback & star ratings). Your average star rating is the total stars divided by the number of reviews, so a few early five-star sales matter.

Rules to know before you sell more

Standard accounts are for personal items, not for reselling. Vinted's Help Center says: "standard accounts can't be used to sell items professionally. This includes buying or sourcing items and reselling them at a profit." It also says you cannot sell new items bought specifically to resell, and that Vinted Pro, its business program, is not currently available in the US. Vinted reaffirmed this on September 24, 2026 in its commercial selling Q&A. In plain terms: on a US standard account you sell items you own, such as pieces from your closet, and you do not buy items in order to resell them at a profit. Selling your own pre-loved items, even many of them, is fine. Accounts that break the rules can be restricted and, after a warning, banned (Vinted Help: Commercial selling and Vinted Pro service).

Do not misrepresent items. Photos must show the actual item, and new items cannot be listed as second-hand. Stock photos and pictures taken from other websites get listings removed.

Do not list the same thing twice, and do not promote another marketplace in your description. Both appear on Vinted's lists of reasons a listing gets hidden or removed.

Is selling on Vinted worth it?

Based on Vinted's published rules, here are the real pros and cons for a US seller.

What works well

  • No selling fee, and no cost to list.
  • Prepaid labels, with the buyer paying shipping.
  • Payment held by a regulated provider until delivery, so you are not chasing buyers.
  • A refund policy for buyers, and a support team that, per Vinted, steps in when a claim looks weak.

What to plan for

  • Payouts take time, as shown above, and you may need to complete an identity check.
  • Commercial selling is not allowed on US standard accounts.
  • Lost packages are compensated only up to the carrier limit, and only if you packed and shipped correctly.
  • Buyers see your price plus shipping and the Vinted fee, so a low-priced item can feel expensive once costs are added.

If you are comparing marketplaces, see how it stacks up in Vinted vs Poshmark and Vinted vs Depop. Sellers' own experiences on forums like Reddit vary a lot by category and by time of year, so use them for tips, not for rules.

Keeping track of what you really earn

Vinted shows your balance and your orders, but not what each sale really left you after fees, shipping supplies and Bumps. If you sell on Vinted and eBay, the numbers live in different places. When it opens in the US, Vinteer will import your Vinted and eBay sales and purchases so you can track your sales, fees and stock across both in one place. Join the Vinteer waitlist to get early access and 20% off for life. Vinteer is a back office for your numbers: it will not act on Vinted on your behalf.
