Is Selling on Vinted Worth It? An Honest Verdict for US Sellers (2026)
Is selling on Vinted worth it in the US? An honest look at the pros, the cons and what you keep per sale on Vinted, Poshmark, Depop, Mercari and eBay, with dollar examples.

Is selling on Vinted worth it? Yes, if you are clearing out your own closet and you can wait for a buyer. No, if you need cash fast, want to build a reselling business, or hate haggling. In the US, Vinted charges sellers no selling fee, so you keep 100% of your sale price, and the shipping label is prepaid. In exchange, you accept low offers, a 5 business day shipping deadline, a payout that arrives only after the buyer confirms, and a marketplace that is still new to American buyers. Vinted also does not allow buying items to resell them at a profit on a standard US account.
That is the verdict. The rest of this article is the evidence: what you keep on a real clear-out compared with Poshmark, Depop, Mercari and eBay, the honest pros and cons, how easy it really is, whether you can make money, and who should skip it. Every rule and number comes from Vinted's own pages, or from the official pages of the other platforms, read on November 7, 2026.

| You can wait for the right buyer | You need a large, proven US audience from day one |
What you really keep: a $197 closet clear-out on five apps
The honest way to answer "is it worth it" is to price the same clear-out everywhere. Say you sell five things you own: a $12 top, $20 jeans, a $35 sweater, a $50 jacket and $80 boots, $197 in total. We assume each buyer pays $7.99 for shipping, a price taken from Mercari's published rate table and used here as a round figure for every app. We ignore ads, packing supplies and your time, which cost about the same on every app, and sales tax, which eBay and Depop also charge their fee on, so their real fees are slightly higher than shown.
| Platform | Seller fee (official) | Fees on the five sales | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | None. "There are no selling fees on Vinted. You keep 100% of what you earn." | $0.00 | $197.00 |
| Depop | No selling fee for US sellers; payment processing 3.3% + $0.45 on item price plus shipping and taxes | $10.06 | $186.94 |
| Mercari | 10% of "the item price + buyer-paid shipping" | $23.70 | $173.30 |
| eBay | 13.6% of the total amount of the sale (most categories) plus $0.40 per order over $10 | $34.24 | $162.76 |
| Poshmark | $2.95 flat under $15, 20% from $15 up | $39.95 | $157.05 |
Sources: Vinted's How it works page and price list (last updated October 8, 2026); Depop's seller fees page (which blocked our automated reading on November 7, 2026, so the 3.3% + $0.45 rate is cross-checked against search results from that page and our Vinted vs Depop article) and its announcement of the US fee change; Mercari's Fees on Mercari page (the $7.99 is its published best rate for a 1 lb USPS Ground Advantage label, effective October 19, 2026); eBay's final value fee page; Poshmark's seller fee page. eBay has special rates for some categories such as athletic shoes and women's handbags, and Texas sellers pay an additional tax on Poshmark, so treat the table as the standard case.
On this basket, Vinted leaves $39.95 more in your pocket than Poshmark and $23.70 more than Mercari. That is the most honest argument for Vinted, and it is real money for a clear-out of this size.
The catch: the buyer pays more, and that can slow a sale
Vinted does not remove its fee, it moves it to the buyer. Vinted's help center says the Vinted fee typically includes a percentage of the item's or bundle's price plus a fixed fee, "usually 5% + $0.70", and is added to the order total. On our five items that is $1.30, $1.70, $2.45, $3.20 and $4.70, or $13.35 on top of the prices, before shipping and tax. On the $12 top the buyer pays 10.8% extra; on the $80 boots, 5.9%.
The table also assumes every item sells at the same price on every app. Real life differs: audiences, shipping prices and how often buyers haggle are not the same, and we found no official sell-through figures for any of the five. So treat the $39.95 difference as the best case for Vinted, not a promise. Our Vinted fee calculator shows both sides of an order at any price, and our Vinted fees guide covers Bumps, the buyer fee and how Vinted makes money.
The pros of selling on Vinted
1. A $0 seller cost. Vinted's help center says: "There are no fees for uploading your items or selling them on Vinted. This means once your sale is successfully closed, you'll receive the full selling price straight to your Vinted Wallet." The only seller-side cost is optional: a Bump, priced by duration (3 or 7 days), item price and local or international reach.
2. The buyer pays shipping, and the label is prepaid. You never front postage. Vinted sends you a prepaid label or a QR code after the sale, and shipping costs depend on package size and where the parcel goes. As of October 30, 2026, Vinted's shipping page says new buyers get free shipping on their first purchase and new sellers on their first sale, and that orders to a Vinted Go shop with SpeedX ship for free where that network exists. Vinted adds that the offer lasts only "while offer lasts", so check your checkout screen. We cover prices and carriers in Vinted shipping explained.
3. You do not chase the money. The buyer pays at checkout, and the payment is held as a Pending balance until the order is completed. You do not wait for a bank transfer from a stranger or deal with a bounced payment.
4. A refund policy that covers the buyer, and you with it. When the order is made with the "Buy now" button, a buyer can ask for a refund if it never shipped or is lost, arrived damaged, or is significantly not as described. Items that simply do not fit are not covered. If you use the Vinted label and pack the item properly, you may also be compensated for a lost or damaged parcel: up to $100 with USPS, up to $100 with FedEx and up to $15 with SpeedX on domestic orders.
5. A catalog built around the stuff in your closet. The vinted.com menu lists Women, Men, Designer, Kids, Home, Electronics, Books & Media, Hobbies & collectibles and Sports. Vinted's own US launch announcement on January 22, 2026 pitched it as "the perfect time to clear out your closet." For branded pieces, Vinted asks for at least three close-up photos of authenticity details in categories like designer goods, which is one more step for you but also one more reason a buyer can trust the listing.
6. A simple upload. The form asks for up to 20 photos, a title, a description, a category, the brand (or "No brand"), the true condition, a price and a package size. Vinted says a new listing may go through an automated check that usually takes up to a minute but can take 3 or 4 days.
The cons of selling on Vinted
1. Offers can be low. Buyers can offer up to 40% below your price, and offers are not binding: the item stays available to others until someone presses "Buy now". Price with a little room, and decide in advance how low you will go.
2. You have 5 business days to ship. If Vinted receives no tracking update or confirmation within 5 business days of the purchase, the order is canceled the next business day. You can ask the buyer for 3 or 5 more business days, and the buyer can say no. That deadline is easy for a closet clear-out, harder if you travel.
3. Payment comes late. Your money is released only after the order is completed: when the buyer presses "Everything is OK", or 2 days after they receive the item without confirming or reporting a problem. You are then paid within 2 days, and a withdrawal to your bank can take up to 5 business days. Stack those windows with shipping and transit and a sale can take well over a week to reach your bank. That is our arithmetic, not a Vinted promise. If you need money this week, this is the wrong app.
4. You cannot buy items to resell them. This is the rule people miss. Vinted's help center says: "standard accounts can't be used to sell items professionally. This includes buying or sourcing items and reselling them at a profit." It adds that you cannot sell new items bought specifically to resell, and that Vinted Pro is not currently available in the US. Vinted repeated this on September 24, 2026, writing that only Vinted Pro members are allowed to sell for a profit as a business, and listing the countries where Pro exists (France, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and the UK). Selling your own pre-loved things, even a lot of them, is the use the platform is built for. Gifts and purchases that did not fit can be listed too, as long as you originally got them for personal use. This is a rule of the platform, not a tax rule, and accounts that break it can be restricted.
5. The US marketplace is young. Vinted announced its US expansion on January 22, 2026. In the announcement and in its 2025 results, we found no US member, listing or buyer count, so we cannot tell you how big the American audience is. That is why a good first test is simple: list a handful of items, and see how many views, offers and sales you get before you list your whole closet.
6. Sales speed is a question mark. We found no figure for how long items take to sell on the official pages of any platform in this article. Forum threads and video reviews say Vinted can be slow and that support can be hard to reach, but those are individual impressions, not data. Judge it with your own first ten listings.
7. Cheap items feel expensive to the buyer. The fixed $0.70 means the Vinted fee is 12% of a $10 item, before shipping. Bundling small items into one order is the usual answer, but check the order summary of a bundle, because Vinted says the fee depends on item characteristics, order value and whether it is a single item or a bundle.
8. Returns and disputes exist, and so does paperwork. Buyers pay return shipping under the refund policy unless the seller supplies a Vinted-generated label, and an identity check by the payment provider can pause your withdrawals until you finish it. You also have to activate your Vinted Wallet with your name, date of birth, address and SSN or ID if applicable.
Is it easy to sell on Vinted?
Yes, to start. Activate your Wallet, photograph the item and fill in one form, wait for a buyer, print or scan the label, drop off the parcel, and withdraw once the order is completed. Our step-by-step guide to how Vinted works for sellers walks through each step. What is not easy is the work around the sale: photographing flaws, writing an honest description, packing so the item arrives intact, and answering messages. If an item is significantly not as described, the buyer can return it for a refund, so a good description is your protection.
A useful way to decide is to divide what you keep by the hours you spend. On our $197 clear-out, if the five items take you 2 hours from photo to drop-off, that is $98.50 an hour; if they take 5 hours, it is $39.40 an hour. These hours are our assumption for the example, not a measured or published figure: use your own.
Can you make money on Vinted?
You can sell things for more than zero, and keep all of it, which is what "making money" means for a clear-out. What we cannot give you is a typical income: Vinted publishes no earnings figure for US sellers, and the numbers you see online come from individual sellers. The volume figure in Vinted's results is global, not US: it reported about €10.8 billion in goods sold across all markets for 2025 in its official results.
Two money facts matter for US sellers. First, the IRS says you must report all income you receive during the year, whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K, and that the loss on the sale of a personal item is not deductible while a gain can be taxable. Second, as of the IRS's guidance of October 23, 2025, third party settlement organizations file a Form 1099-K only when payments exceed $20,000 and the number of transactions exceeds 200. Our Vinted 1099-K guide goes further.

How to make money on Vinted faster
Vinted's own "Selling your items faster" page lists the levers, and none of them is a trick: offer a discount to buyers who take more than one item, upload regularly (your followers are notified of new items and price drops), use high-quality photos and detailed descriptions, send an offer to anyone who favorites an item or asks about it, verify your profile, offer more than one shipping option, and use an item Bump for more visibility. We go deeper in how to get more views on Vinted and what a Bump does. Do everything by hand: Vinted's rules are written for people selling their own things.
Who should sell on Vinted, and who should not
A good fit:
- You are moving clothes, shoes, bags, kids' items or home goods you own and no longer use.
- You have brand-name pieces you can photograph with labels and details visible.
- You are not in a hurry, and you would rather keep the full price than get the fastest sale.
A weak fit:
- Your plan is to buy items to resell them. Vinted's rule for US standard accounts rules that out, and we give no advice on it.
- You need a proven American audience or a quick payout. Compare the Vinted vs Poshmark, Vinted vs Depop and Vinted vs Mercari breakdowns.
- Your stock is mostly under $10 per item and you will not bundle.
Many sellers use more than one app for the same clear-out. If you do, pull a listing the moment it sells elsewhere, and keep a stock record. Not sure about the platform itself? Read is Vinted legit for what the reviews say and what Vinted publishes.

FAQ
Conclusion
Selling on Vinted is worth it for a US seller who wants to turn things they own into cash and keep every dollar of the price. On our $197 clear-out that was $197.00 on Vinted against $157.05 on Poshmark, with Depop, Mercari and eBay in between. It is not worth it if you need money this week, if you cannot ship within 5 business days, or if your plan involves buying to resell. Start with ten items and judge the platform by what you keep and how long it took.
