Vinted and Depop side by side: seller fees, shipping and buyers compared for US sellers

Vinted vs Depop in one sentence: in the US, neither app takes a selling fee from you, but Vinted costs a seller $0 on every sale while Depop takes 3.3% + $0.45 for payment processing (and 12% more if you boost an item), and Depop brings a younger, fashion-first crowd while Vinted is a broader, more practical marketplace. Some comparisons you will find online were written for the UK, or before Depop dropped its US selling fee in July 2024, so they can get the fees wrong. This one uses the fee pages, help centers and filings of both companies, read in October 2026.

Vinted vs Depop fees for US sellers

What Vinted charges sellers

Vinted's own wording is blunt: there are no selling fees, and you keep what you earn. The platform is paid by the buyer through the Vinted fee, which the Vinted price list (last updated October 8, 2026) describes as typically "a percentage of the item's or bundle's price, as well as a fixed fee, usually 5% + $0.70". The amount is built into the price breakdown on each listing, so it never comes out of your payout. The only seller-side cost is optional: Bumps, which push a listing for 3 or 7 days at a price that depends on duration, item price and local or international reach. For the full breakdown, see our guide to Vinted fees.

What Depop charges sellers

Depop removed its 10% selling fee for US sellers on July 15, 2024, and introduced a buyer-paid Marketplace fee a few days later, as it announced on its company news page. That is the change older articles miss. Per Depop's Seller fees and charges page (updated July 21, 2026), US sellers still pay:

  • A payment processing fee of 3.3% + $0.45 for Depop Payments (via Stripe), charged on the item price plus shipping and any applicable taxes.
  • A 12% boosting fee, only if you boost, only when a boosted listing sells, on the item price excluding taxes. Depop's Boosted Listings Policy says the fee is not charged on Depop Shipping labels, and that a sale counts if the buyer saw the boosted listing and bought within 28 days. The 12% rate applies to new listings from March 23, 2026, and also to the shipping cost if you arrange your own shipping.

Fees are reversed if the sale is refunded.

A $50 sale, side by side

Say you sell a $50 jacket and the shipping is $8 on both apps, paid by the buyer (on Depop, you choose who pays shipping when you list), with the label covered by that amount. Shipping is then a pass-through, so only the fees differ.

Item price
Vinted$50.00
Depop$50.00
Depop, boosted$50.00
Fees taken from the seller
Vinted$0.00
Depop$2.36 (3.3% x $58 + $0.45)
Depop, boosted$8.36 ($2.36 + 12% x $50 = $6.00)
Share of the item price
Vinted0%
Depop4.7%
Depop, boosted16.7%
Fee added on top for the buyer
Vintedabout $3.20 (5% x $50 + $0.70)
Depopup to $3.50 (5% x $50 + $1)
Depop, boostedup to $3.50

The fixed $0.45 hurts most on cheap items. On a $15 item with $5 shipping, Depop's processing fee is $1.11, which is 7.4% of the item price. The buyer-side fee also weighs more on small orders, which matters if you sell lots of $10 to $20 pieces. Our free Vinted fee calculator shows what your buyer actually pays on Vinted for any price.

Who buys on Vinted vs Depop

Depop: a young, fashion-led audience

Etsy's FY2025 annual report is the most reliable public source on Depop's audience. As of December 31, 2025, Depop had about 55.6 million registered users, 7.0 million active buyers and 3.2 million active sellers. In the US, its largest market, active sellers grew 60% in 2025. In the same filing, 93% of Depop's gross merchandise sales were apparel, and 87% of buyers in the past year were under 34. Depop is also changing hands: eBay completed its acquisition of Depop on July 30, 2026, and says Depop keeps operating with its own brand and platform.

Vinted: a broader marketplace

On the Vinted US site, the catalog covers Women, Men, Designer, Kids, Home, Electronics, Books & Media, Hobbies & collectibles and Sports. That breadth is a real difference if you sell more than clothes: kids' items, home goods and sports gear all have a place. Vinted does not publish a US-only user count that we could find, so any claim about which is "more popular" in the US on the Vinted side is guesswork.

Depop publishes the clearer numbers, and the US is its largest market. We found no official US-only figure for Vinted, so we cannot rank the two by size. Vinted is newer to American buyers. Popularity is also less useful than fit: a vintage band tee and a pair of kids' rain boots do not have the same best buyer.

What tends to sell where

This part is judgment, not data, so test it on your own items. Depop rewards pieces that sell on look and taste: vintage, streetwear, Y2K, distinctive brands, and good styling in photos. Vinted rewards clear, honestly priced everyday inventory: basics, brands buyers already search for, kids' and home items, bundles. If your item needs a story, start on Depop. If it needs a fair price and a good photo, Vinted is the lower-friction place to start.

Two practical consequences. On Vinted, your money sits in a pending balance until the buyer confirms, so a quiet buyer delays your cash by a couple of days. On Depop, delivery or the 10-business-day mark releases it automatically. And on both apps, using the platform's own label is what keeps you covered, so shipping a different way is the quickest way to lose protection. Which one should you sell on?

  • Choose Vinted first if you sell mixed everyday items from your own closet, kids' or home items, or sell many cheap items where a fixed $0.45 matters, and you want a $0 seller cost per sale. Start with how Vinted works for sellers.
  • Choose Depop first if your stock is vintage, streetwear or trend-driven, your audience is under 34, and a few dollars in fees is acceptable for reaching it.
  • Use both if you have a deep catalog. Most items can live on both, but one sale must pull the other listing down quickly, because selling the same piece twice costs you a refund and a cancellation. Add Poshmark to the mix and the fee math changes again: see Vinted vs Poshmark.

If you do run several marketplaces, the hard part is not the listing, it is knowing which one actually left you the most after fees and shipping. Run a few real sales through the fee calculator before you decide where to put your best items.

FAQ

Conclusion

In the US, Vinted vs Depop is no longer a fees-versus-no-fees question: both dropped the selling commission, and the real gap is a few dollars of payment processing on Depop against a younger, style-driven audience. Pick the app where your inventory fits the buyer, price a few items on both, and judge them by what you keep, not by what you list. Fees and policies change, so recheck the official pages linked above.
