Best Apps to Sell Clothes in 2026: Fees, Payouts and Which One to Use
The best apps to sell clothes in 2026, compared on what each one takes, who pays shipping, how fast you get paid and which seller each app fits.

The best app to sell clothes depends on what you sell and how much you want to keep. Vinted keeps the most of every sale because sellers pay $0 in selling fees. In our examples Depop is the next cheapest for sellers, with a 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing fee. Poshmark takes 20% (or a flat $2.95 under $15) in exchange for a fashion audience and social tools. Mercari takes 10% and sells far more than fashion. eBay takes about 13.6% plus a per-order fee and wins on rare and high-value pieces. ThredUp is the only one here that does the listing and shipping for you, in exchange for most of the sale price on cheaper items and a long wait.
Below you will find one big comparison table, what you actually keep on a $10, $20, $50 and $100 sale, a fiche for each app, and a straight answer to "which app for which seller", including the cases where Vinted is not the winner.
Vinteer is not affiliated with these platforms
Every fee, deadline and payout rule below comes from the official pages of each platform, read on November 7, 2026. Platforms change their fees and shipping rates, so confirm the numbers on the listing or checkout screen before you price. Vinteer is not affiliated with Vinted, Depop, Poshmark, Mercari, eBay or ThredUp.
The best apps to sell clothes at a glance
Fees first, because they decide what you keep.
| App | What the seller pays | What the buyer pays on top | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | $0 (Bumps are optional) | Vinted fee, usually 5% + $0.70, plus shipping | Everyday clothes, kids' items, a simple flow |
| Depop | 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing, on item price plus shipping and taxes; 12% boosting fee only on a sale that comes through a boosted listing | Marketplace fee of up to 5% + up to $1, plus shipping | Vintage, streetwear and trend pieces |
| Poshmark | $2.95 flat under $15; 20% at $15 and above | Flat shipping (Poshmark announced $6.49 up to 5 lbs); no buyer protection fee | Brand-name fashion, social selling |
| Mercari | 10% of item price plus buyer-paid shipping | Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% of item price plus buyer-paid shipping | Mixed closets, fast cash-out |
| eBay | About 13.6% of the whole sale (item, shipping, tax) plus $0.30 (orders of $10 or less) or $0.40 per order; 250 free listings a month | No separate buyer fee on eBay's fee page | Rare, collectible and high-value pieces |
| ThredUp | You earn 3% to 80% of the selling price, plus a service fee deducted from earnings | Normal ThredUp prices | Bags of clothes you do not want to list yourself |
Then logistics, which decides how much work each sale is and how quickly the money arrives.
| App | Shipping | Ship within | When you are paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | Always paid by the buyer; prepaid label | 5 business days | Within 2 days after the buyer confirms or the 2-day review window ends; bank transfer takes up to 5 business days |
| Depop | Depop Shipping (prepaid USPS label) | 10 days, then the order is canceled | 2 business days after delivery or 10 business days after the sale, whichever comes first |
| Poshmark | Buyer pays Poshmark's flat rate; prepaid label up to 5 lbs | 7 days | When the buyer accepts, or automatically 3 days after delivery if no return case is opened |
| Mercari | Buyer-paid or seller-paid, set when you list; Mercari prepaid labels | 3 days | When the buyer rates the order, or 72 hours after delivery; Instant Pay in about 30 minutes for $3 |
| eBay | You set the charge and buy the label | The handling time you promise | Funds generally available within 2 days of confirmed payment, then your payout schedule; express payout in about 30 minutes for $2 |
| ThredUp | Free prepaid bag or label, UPS drop-off | No per-sale deadline: you send one bag or label | Weeks to months: credit after the 14-day return window of each sold item, then convertible to cash |
Two honest notes before the details. Nothing in this table pays you instantly, so any ad that promises instant cash for clothes is either selling you a trade-in or a fast payout of money you had to earn first. And every platform in this table protects the buyer first, so photos, accurate descriptions and the platform's own shipping label protect you too.
What you actually keep on a sale
Fees look small until you apply them to your prices. The table assumes the buyer pays $8 of shipping on Depop, Mercari and eBay (a typical 1 lb parcel, since Mercari's own rate table lists a 1 lb USPS Ground Advantage label at $7.99 at its best rate), that Poshmark's flat rate is $6.49, that the label costs exactly what the buyer paid, and that there is no sales tax. Because the order total (item plus $8 shipping) is above $10 at every price shown, eBay's per-order fee is $0.40 in all four rows. Those assumptions matter, because Depop, Mercari and eBay charge on shipping as well as on the item price.
| Item price | Vinted | Depop | Poshmark | Mercari | eBay |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $10.00 | $8.96 | $7.05 | $8.20 | $7.15 |
| $20 | $20.00 | $18.63 | $16.00 | $17.20 | $15.79 |
| $50 | $50.00 | $47.64 | $40.00 | $44.20 | $41.71 |
| $100 | $100.00 | $95.99 | $80.00 | $89.20 | $84.91 |
| Added to the buyer's price on a $50 item | about $3.20 | up to $3.50 | $0 | about $2.09 | $0 |
How each number is built:
- Vinted: $0 selling fee. The buyer-side fee is "usually 5% + $0.70" per Vinted's price list, so $3.20 on $50.
- Depop: 3.3% of (item price + shipping) + $0.45. On $50 with $8 shipping that is $2.36.
- Poshmark: $2.95 under $15, 20% from $15. Note the cliff: a $14 item keeps $11.05, a $15 item keeps $12.00.
- Mercari: 10% of (item price + buyer-paid shipping). On $50 with $8 shipping that is $5.80.
- eBay: 13.6% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order (the order total is above $10). On $50 with $8 shipping and no tax that is $8.29. Sales tax would raise the fee, because eBay calculates it on the total.
The takeaway is not that Vinted always wins the sale, because the buyer sees a higher total on Vinted than the item price. It is that for a seller, the gap between Vinted and the others grows with the price, and the cheapest items suffer most from fixed fees. If you want to see your own numbers, the Vinted fee calculator and the eBay fee calculator run them for any price.
The apps one by one
Vinted: keeps the most per sale
Fees. Vinted says there are no selling fees and that you keep 100% of what you earn. The platform is paid by the buyer through the Vinted fee, which Vinted's price list (last updated October 8, 2026) describes as a percentage plus a fixed fee, usually 5% + $0.70. The only seller cost is an optional Bump of 3 or 7 days. See Vinted fees for every line.
Shipping. The buyer always pays and chooses the carrier at checkout. You get a prepaid label from Vinted. New buyers get free shipping on their first purchase and new sellers on their first sale, applied automatically (Vinted's shipping prices page, updated October 30, 2026), and orders to a Vinted Go shop with SpeedX continue to ship free while the offer lasts. You have 5 business days to ship, and you can ask for 3 or 5 more. More in Vinted shipping explained.
Payout. The money sits in a pending balance until the buyer presses "Everything is OK" or the 2-day review window ends. You are then paid within 2 days, and a withdrawal to your US bank takes up to 5 business days with a $0.10 minimum. The pages we read mention no instant payout option.
Rules to know. Vinted's help page on commercial selling says standard accounts cannot be used to sell professionally, which includes buying or sourcing items and reselling them at a profit, and that Vinted Pro is not currently available in the US. It is a place to sell what you own. The catalog covers Women, Men, Designer, Kids, Home, Electronics, Books and Media, Hobbies and collectibles, and Sports.
Where it wins: cost, simplicity, and lower-priced everyday clothes. Where it loses: buyers see a fee on top of your price, Vinted is newer to US shoppers than Poshmark or eBay, and the payout is not instant. We found no official US sell-through figures for any of these apps, so any claim that one "sells faster" is an impression, not data. For a head-to-head, read Vinted vs Poshmark, Vinted vs Depop, Vinted vs Mercari and Vinted vs eBay.
Depop: cheapest alternative, built for fashion
Fees. Depop charges US sellers no selling fee. What remains is a payment processing fee of 3.3% + $0.45 on the item price plus shipping and any taxes (Depop's seller fees page, updated July 21, 2026), a 12% boosting fee only when a buyer interacts with a boosted listing and buys the item within 28 days, and a buyer-paid Marketplace fee of up to 5% plus up to $1. Fees are reversed if the sale is refunded. The fixed $0.45 hurts the cheapest items most: on a $10 sale with $8 shipping you keep $8.96.
Shipping. Depop Shipping runs through USPS with a QR code or printable label. Depop says that from October 28, 2026 the "Other" option is no longer available for new listings, so everything you list from that date uses Depop Shipping. You must ship within 10 days or the order is canceled and the buyer refunded. Sellers who ship with a Depop label within 5 days are covered by Depop Protection on sales up to $300 if the item is lost or damaged.
Payout. The money lands in your Depop Balance 2 business days after the item shows as delivered, or 10 business days after the sale, whichever comes first. A withdrawal can take up to 5 days.
Audience. Depop is fashion-led, and eBay describes its customer base as Gen Z and Millennial. In our judgment that is why vintage, streetwear and trend pieces tend to belong there, which is a pattern rather than a published sales statistic. Depop terms also let you use the platform for business purposes. eBay completed its acquisition of Depop on July 30, 2026, and says Depop keeps its own brand and platform, so the two remain separate marketplaces today.
Where it wins: a style-driven audience at a low seller cost. Where it loses: the processing fee applies to every sale, a boosted sale costs another 12%, and the prepaid label is now the only way to list.
Poshmark: the established fashion marketplace
Fees. Poshmark's Fee Policy (version 1.7, effective November 25, 2024) says listing is free and the seller fee is a flat $2.95 for sales under $15 and 20% for sales of $15 and above. Poshmark reverted to this structure on October 24, 2024 and removed the buyer protection fee, so buyers pay no separate fee.
Shipping. The buyer pays a flat rate. Poshmark announced a drop from $8.27 to $6.49 starting September 12, 2025, and we found no newer official standard rate. Since November 3, 2026, Poshmark's promotion terms say U.S. shoppers pay $0.99 for standard shipping on eligible marketplace orders, for a limited time that Poshmark can end at any time. That changes what buyers pay at checkout; the Fee Policy, and so the 20% and $2.95 figures in this article, did not change. The seller gets one prepaid label or QR code per order for shipments up to 5 lbs including packaging. For heavier parcels, Poshmark's October 8, 2026 announcement says the label upgrade costs $5 for 5.01 to 10 lbs and $10 for 10.01 to 15 lbs, and from October 26, 2026 it is deducted from your earnings if you ship over 5 lbs without upgrading. You must ship within 7 days or the buyer can cancel.
Payout. Payment is released when the buyer accepts the order, or automatically if no return case is opened within 3 days of delivery. Buyers have 72 hours after delivery to open a case under Posh Protect, which covers undisclosed damage, wrong or missing items, items not as described, inauthentic items and orders that never arrived. Fit and changed minds are not covered. Poshmark says you can withdraw earnings for free at any time.
Tools. The current Seller Policy (effective July 23, 2026) lists Reposh and copy listing, Posh Shows, My Closet Insights, Bulk Actions, My Shoppers and external advertising on third-party platforms. The previous version (effective December 18, 2025) also listed free authentication on orders of $500 or more, which the current version no longer mentions, so do not count on it. Poshmark accepts most fashion plus select home goods, pet items and electronics.
Where it wins: brand-name fashion where the social tools and an established audience justify 20%. Where it loses: a $10 sale keeps only $7.05, and the $15 cliff means you should price just above it rather than just below.
Mercari: broader than fashion, with a published instant payout
Fees. Mercari charges 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping on listings created or updated since January 6, 2025, with no separate payment processing fee for sellers. Buyers pay 3.6% of the same base. Mercari changed its fee structure for listings created or updated from that date, so check the date of any older article that quotes different Mercari fees.
Shipping. Mercari offers prepaid labels with USPS, UPS and FedEx at published rates by weight, effective October 19, 2026 (for example USPS Ground Advantage 1 lb at $7.99 or $8.99, depending on rate). Once your item sells you have 3 days to ship, and Shipping Protection covers loss or damage up to $200 on Mercari labels.
Payout. Buyers usually have 72 hours from delivery to review. Once they rate the order, or 72 hours pass, the funds are released. Direct deposit is free (limited to one a day, typically 5 business days; Mercari's Seller Protection page says 5 to 7). Instant Pay costs $3 and, per Mercari, puts funds in your account in about 30 minutes, up to $600 per month on eligible debit cards.
Where it wins: a mixed closet that includes electronics, toys or home goods, and a published instant payout (Instant Pay) for a flat $3. Where it loses: the 10% is charged on the shipping the buyer pays too, so $5.80 on a $50 sale with $8 shipping is 11.6% of your item price.
eBay: wide reach, higher fees
Fees. For most categories including clothing, the final value fee is 13.6% of the total amount of the sale (item, shipping, sales tax and other applicable fees) up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above. Every month you get 250 free listings, then $0.35 each. Some categories differ: "Sneakers Over $150" pay 8% with no per-order fee, women's bags and handbags pay 15% up to $2,000, and most jewelry pays 15% up to $5,000 (eBay Seller Center, read November 7, 2026). Use the eBay fee calculator to check your category. The full breakdown is in Vinted vs eBay.
Shipping. You decide how to charge for shipping and you buy the label, ideally through eBay Labels, which can generate a QR code if you do not have a printer.
Payout. eBay generally makes funds available within 2 days of confirming the buyer's payment and your bank then generally takes 1 to 3 more days. You choose a daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule (weekly and biweekly payouts go out on Tuesdays). Weekly, biweekly and monthly sellers can request an express payout, which eBay says is typically available within 30 minutes, for a flat $2.00 fee per express payout (eBay's Express payouts page).
Audience. eBay's Seller Center cites "over 134 million buyers in over 190 markets," a worldwide figure, not a US clothing number. Its Seller Center also asks new business sellers how they will source products, so unlike Vinted, eBay is a place where sourcing stock to sell is part of the official guidance.
Where it wins: pieces people search for by exact brand, model or era, sneakers over $150 at 8%, and sellers who want auctions, Promoted Listings or Stores. Where it loses: cheap everyday clothes, where the percentage plus the per-order fee takes a big bite of a $10 to $30 sale.
ThredUp: when you do not want to list at all
ThredUp is a different model, consignment, so the comparison is less direct. You order a prepaid label (always free) or a 30 lb bag, send up to 30 lbs of clothing, and ThredUp lists and sells for you. The bag carries a $2.99 fee on Standard Clean Outs, shown as $0.00 in the promotion below.
- What it accepts: women's and kids' clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories that are clean, in good condition and unaltered, with a size label. It does not accept men's items, jewelry (except watches), intimates or pajamas.
- What you earn: a percentage of the selling price that grows with price: 3% on a $5 sale, 15% at $20, 30% at $50, 60% at $100 and 80% at $200 (ThredUp's earnings breakdown). ThredUp sets the price and lowers it over time.
- Fees: no upfront fees. A service fee of $14.99 (Standard) or $34.99 (Premium) is deducted from earnings only after items sell, and you are never charged more than you earn. On November 7, 2026 the Standard fee was shown as $0.00 for new sellers on up to two Standard bags or labels received within 30 days of ordering.
- The catch: ThredUp accepts an average of 60 to 80% of items in Standard Clean Outs, says about 38% of accepted items do not sell within their consignment window, and puts the whole process at 10 to 14 weeks for most Standard Clean Outs (16 to 20 for Premium). Earnings arrive as ThredUp credit after each item's 14-day return window, and you can convert any amount into cash.
Where it wins: a closet purge with no listing work. Where it loses: payouts are small on cheap items, slow, and uncertain. ThredUp's own estimate page was unavailable from our location on the day we read it, so the figures above come from its published Clean Out Guide.
What about Facebook Marketplace?
Facebook Marketplace is a common suggestion for "where can I sell used clothes for cash" because a local pickup can happen the same day. We could not read Meta's Marketplace fee and payout pages on November 7, 2026, so we do not quote fees for it here. Check Meta's current Marketplace seller terms before you compare it with the apps above, and meet local buyers in a public place.
Which app for which seller
This is where the table turns into a decision. Use the row that matches what is in your closet.
- You want to keep every dollar on everyday clothes: Vinted. A $0 seller fee beats every other app in the table at every price, and the saving grows with the price.
- You sell vintage, Y2K, streetwear or distinctive trend pieces: try Depop first. It costs a few dollars per sale rather than 20%, and the audience is fashion-first. Start there if your item needs a story and a styled photo.
- You sell mid-range and designer brand names and like social selling: Poshmark can justify its 20% through Posh Shows, Reposh and closet tools, but only if you use them. If you do not, Depop or Mercari leave you more per sale.
- You are clearing a mixed closet with kids' items, electronics, toys or home goods: Mercari. It is broader than fashion, you can choose who pays shipping, and it publishes a $3 Instant Pay option (eBay's express payout is $2).
- You have something rare, collectible or valuable: eBay. More buyers search by exact model, brand or era, sneakers over $150 pay 8%, and auctions can lift the price. Accept the higher fee only when the piece is worth it.
- You have a bag of clothes and no time: ThredUp. Expect small payouts and a long wait, and read the service fee and acceptance rules first.
- You need cash today: no app here pays out the same day from a sale that has not happened yet. The fastest published paths are Mercari Instant Pay (about 30 minutes after the buyer rates the order, $3) and eBay express payout (typically within 30 minutes, $2, weekly, biweekly or monthly payout schedules only). eBay says funds are generally available within 2 days of confirming the buyer's payment, so it may reach your account sooner than Mercari, which waits for delivery and the buyer's rating or 72 hours. A local pickup can be same-day if you can arrange one safely.
Three cases where Vinted does not win:
- You buy to resell. Vinted US prohibits it on standard accounts. If you source stock, read the official rules of the platform you choose first: eBay's Seller Center and Depop's terms both address business sellers.
- Your item needs a specific audience. A rare band tee or a limited sneaker may reach more buyers on eBay or Depop, even at a higher fee.
- You need money within hours. Vinted pays after the buyer confirms and then needs up to 5 business days to reach your bank.
Can you sell on more than one app?
Yes, and many sellers do. We found nothing in the official rules we read that forbids having the same item on two apps, but check each platform's current terms. The real risk is selling the same piece twice, which costs you a cancellation and a refund. Take the second listing down the moment the first one sells, and keep a stock record so you always know what is still available.
Poshmark vs Depop vs Mercari: the head-to-head people search for
If you are choosing among the three most-searched fashion apps for the same $50 jacket with $8 shipping (Poshmark at its own $6.49 flat rate):
| Poshmark | Depop | Mercari | |
|---|---|---|---|
| You keep | $40.00 | $47.64 | $44.20 |
| Fee base | Item price | Item price plus shipping plus taxes | Item price plus buyer-paid shipping |
| Added to the buyer's price | No buyer fee | Up to $3.50 | About $2.09 |
| Ship within | 7 days | 10 days | 3 days |
| Cash-out | Withdraw any time, free | Up to 5 days | Free in about 5 business days, or $3 Instant Pay |
On cost alone, Depop leaves you the most, then Mercari, then Poshmark. On reach and tools, it depends on what you sell: Poshmark has the social tools, Depop the style-led audience, Mercari the breadth. Our Vinted vs Depop and Vinted vs Mercari guides cover each pairing in depth.

FAQ
Conclusion
There is no single best app to sell clothes, but there is a clear order for a seller who wants to keep the most: Vinted first, then Depop, Mercari and eBay depending on the piece, and Poshmark when its tools are worth 20%. Price three real items on each app before you commit, judge them by what you keep after fees and shipping, and recheck the official pages linked above, because platforms change their fees often.
