Vinted return policy for US buyers and sellers: 2-day claim window, refund options and who pays return shipping

Vinted does not have a general "return it if you change your mind" policy. In the US, an order paid with the "Buy now" button is covered by Vinted's Refund Policy only when the item never arrives, arrives damaged, or is significantly not as described, and the buyer has 2 calendar days to report it. A return for any other reason, such as a bad fit, only happens if the seller agrees. When a return is approved, the buyer pays return shipping unless the seller offers to cover it.

That is the short version for both sides of the sale. The details decide who gets paid and who gets stuck: which problems count, what a seller can answer, how refunds reach a card or a wallet, and what to do when the two sides disagree. This guide follows Vinted's own US help pages step by step.

Vinteer is not affiliated with Vinted

This guide summarizes Vinted's public US help pages as read on November 7, 2026. Vinted can change its policy at any time, and the buttons and screens in your app are the final word on your own order.

What does the Vinted return policy cover?

Vinted's Refund Policy applies to all purchases made via the "Buy now" button. Vinted says that if you pay outside its system, you are not covered and it cannot help, so you would have to sort out any return or refund directly with the other person (see is Vinted legit for why paying off-platform is a bad idea). Vinted's fee page words the protection as applying to items bought from a non-professional seller, which is every seller on a standard US account because Vinted Pro is not available in the US (see Vinted Pro in the US).

Within that, a buyer can ask for a refund when the order:

  • was never shipped, or was lost (including an order that is shown as delivered but never reached the buyer)
  • arrived damaged, including damage in transit
  • is significantly not as described (Vinted shortens this to SNAD)
  • is missing items from a bundle
  • was returned to the seller because it could not be delivered

What counts as "significantly not as described"?

Vinted's help page lists the main cases:

  • Wrong color or incorrect size
  • Missing parts or accessories that the listing did not mention
  • A bundle with missing items
  • Damage (stained, ripped, broken) that the description or photos did not show
  • Different main materials from the listing
  • Counterfeit
  • Any other visible flaw that was not in the listing
  • Functionality not as described, for example a console not connecting to the TV or a device not charging

What is not covered?

Vinted is just as specific about what is not eligible:

  • Items the buyer does not like or that do not fit. Vinted says a return in this case is only possible if the seller agrees.
  • Minor differences that do not affect the look or use of the item, such as a slight color difference due to lighting.
  • Items used extensively or damaged after a successful delivery. Vinted says it is fine to check whether something fits or works, but not to wear or use it a lot and then send it back.
  • Orders already completed. Once an order is accepted, or no issue is reported in time, the payment goes to the seller and refunds are no longer possible.

How long do buyers have to report a problem?

2 calendar days. The window starts when Vinted notifies the buyer that the order should have been delivered, or that it seems to be lost. If the buyer does nothing in that time, or presses "Everything is OK", the order is completed automatically and the payment is released to the seller.

Vinted words this window slightly differently from page to page. The Refund Policy says 2 calendar days after the "should have been delivered" notice, two other help pages say "2 days", and the chargeback page says buyers have 2 business days from the delivery date. Our figure follows the Refund Policy, but a buyer should not wait: report the problem the day the parcel arrives or the notice appears.

For sellers, this is the other half of the safety net: once that window closes with no issue, the sale is final. Our guide on how to get paid on Vinted explains when the money moves from pending to available.

Step by step: how a return or refund works

For an item that is significantly not as described, this is the sequence on Vinted's help pages:

  1. The buyer reports the issue. In the order conversation, the buyer presses "I have an issue" within the 2-day window, picks the reason, explains the problem and adds photos (the whole item, close-ups of the defect, the outer and inner packaging, labels, and measurements if the issue is about size).
  2. The order is suspended. The buyer's payment is held and the seller is not paid yet. A suspended order shows the held money under pending balance in the seller's Wallet.
  3. The seller answers. The seller can offer a partial refund (the buyer keeps the item; not available for bundles), offer a full refund (the buyer keeps the order), or ask for a return.
  4. If a return is requested, the buyer chooses how to send it. Options are an integrated return shipping option on Vinted, a Vinted-generated label or code, or a tracked return the buyer arranges and pays for. The buyer has 5 business days from the seller's request to send it, or the refund request is closed and the payment is released to the seller. Vinted requires the item back in the condition reported, unwashed and unused, with all accessories, tags and labels, and packed properly, otherwise the request may be disputed or dismissed.
  5. The seller checks the package. Once it arrives, the seller has 2 days to confirm that everything is OK with the returned item.
  6. The refund is issued. The buyer gets the refund after the seller confirms, or when the 2-day deadline ends.
  7. If the two sides cannot agree, either one can send the case to Vinted support (more on that below).

A package that is lost or damaged in transit follows a shorter path: the buyer reports it, Vinted may investigate with the carrier, and the buyer is refunded if the loss or damage is confirmed, usually without sending anything back.

Who pays for return shipping on Vinted?

The buyer, unless the seller offers to cover it. Vinted's Refund Policy says buyers pay for return shipping as part of its Terms and Conditions, and that sellers can choose to cover it by providing a Vinted-generated label for the return. If the buyer pays, the cost is deducted from the refund. If the package is lost or damaged on the way back and was packed properly, the buyer is not charged for return shipping.

Here is how that works out by situation, based on Vinted's pages:

SituationOrder lost, never delivered, or damaged in transit
Who pays return shippingNo return needed in most cases
What the buyer gets backFull refund: item price, Vinted fee, shipping fee, sales tax
SituationSignificantly not as described, seller refunds in full
Who pays return shippingNone: the buyer keeps the item
What the buyer gets backFull refund for the reported items
SituationSignificantly not as described, seller refunds part
Who pays return shippingNone: the buyer keeps the item
What the buyer gets backPartial item price as agreed, plus a proportional share of the Vinted fee
SituationSignificantly not as described, seller asks for a return
Who pays return shippingBuyer, unless the seller provides a Vinted-generated label
What the buyer gets backItem price, Vinted fee, original shipping and sales tax, minus return shipping paid
SituationConfirmed counterfeit
Who pays return shippingNone: the item does not need to be returned
What the buyer gets backItem price, Vinted fee and original shipping
SituationOrder returned to sender (could not be delivered)
Who pays return shippingNone: it comes back to the seller
What the buyer gets backRefund once the seller receives it and confirms
SituationDoes not fit or changed mind, seller agrees to a return
Who pays return shippingUsually the buyer, unless agreed otherwise
What the buyer gets backWhatever the two sides agree
SituationSeller has not shipped yet
Who pays return shippingNone: the order is canceled
What the buyer gets backRefund of the order, to the original payment method

An illustrative example with made-up numbers: the $8 return label is not a Vinted rate, and sales tax is left out to keep the math simple. A buyer pays $40 for a jacket plus a Vinted fee of $2.70 (using the "usually 5% + $0.70" that Vinted describes) and $5 shipping, so $47.70 before tax. The jacket arrives with a stain the listing did not show, and the seller asks for a return. If the return label costs $8 and the buyer pays it, the refund is $47.70 minus $8, or $39.70 (plus any sales tax). If the seller provides the label instead, the buyer gets the full $47.70 back (plus any sales tax). Vinted's pages do not say how the cost of a seller-provided label is charged to the seller, so check what your order screen shows before you offer it. For the fee side of this, see Vinted fees.

What can a seller do when a buyer reports a problem?

When a buyer files an issue, you do not have to guess. Vinted gives the seller three responses, and a way to push back.

Accept in the way that suits you:

  • Offer a partial refund if the flaw is real but small, so the buyer keeps the item. In the made-up $40 jacket example, a $10 partial refund would leave you with the other $30 of the item price. Partial refunds are not available for bundles.
  • Offer a full refund and let the buyer keep the order, which makes sense for a cheap item where a return would cost more than it is worth.
  • Ask for a return, which keeps the item coming back to you. The buyer has 5 business days to send it, and you have 2 days after it arrives to confirm that it is in order.

If you disagree with the claim, you can dispute it. Vinted says you have 14 days from the time the transaction is suspended to dispute, and that you can only dispute if you have not already agreed to refund the item or requested a return through the options in the conversation screen. When a case reaches Vinted support, it reviews the evidence from both sides:

  • If it finds the item was described correctly, the order is completed and you are paid.
  • If it finds the item is significantly not as described, you have 2 days to either request a return or release the refund.

What helps your case. Vinted tells sellers to keep the shipping receipt until the sale is completed, and says photos of the item and the packed package before shipping can help prove it was packed properly if something is damaged. Vinted's pages do not describe a button for a seller to ask the buyer for more photos, but Vinted says it may ask the buyer for extra photos to review a claim, and you can always message the buyer in the conversation.

Do not cancel a suspended order too early

Vinted says that if you cancel a suspended order, you do not receive your payment or any compensation. It advises doing it only if the buyer received an item that is significantly not as described, agreed to return it, and sent you proof of return shipping, such as a tracking code or receipt.

If the buyer returns a package that is not in the same condition you sent, or you get the wrong item or an empty box, Vinted has a separate path: you have 2 days to report an issue from the moment the order is marked as delivered, and Vinted says it will get back to you within 48 hours. If the buyer is at fault, it completes the order and releases the payment to you. If the carrier is at fault, you may get compensation. If neither is at fault, it may cancel the order and refund the buyer.

How long do refunds take?

It depends on how the buyer paid, and the clock starts when the order is canceled:

  • Vinted Wallet: within a few hours of the cancellation.
  • Credit or debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay: within 5 business days (Vinted counts Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays). If it has not arrived after that, Vinted says to contact your bank or card servicer, and for Google Pay not to contact Google Pay itself, which does not handle refunds.
  • Split payment (Wallet plus another method): each part goes back to where it came from.

Two timing rules to know. For a return, the refund is issued after the seller confirms the item is OK, or when the seller's 2-day deadline ends, and the payment-method timing above then applies. For a lost or damaged order, Vinted says it may need to investigate with the shipping company and that this can take several weeks, while the payment stays safe in the suspended order.

How do you cancel a Vinted order before it ships?

If the seller has not shipped yet, there is no return at all: the order is just canceled, and either the buyer or the seller can do it. Vinted's steps:

  1. Open the conversation with the other member.
  2. Press the info (i) symbol in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose "Cancel order" and select a reason from the list (or "Other" and add details).

Then the buyer is refunded, to the original payment method and on the timing above. Two notes from Vinted. First, canceling manually can trigger automatic negative feedback, so agree on it with the other person first, and then they can edit or delete the feedback. Second, after a cancellation, the seller can press "Re-upload item" to put the item on sale again.

Orders can also cancel on their own. Vinted says this happens, for example, if the seller does not download the shipping label or send the item within 5 business days, or sends it with a different shipping method from the one the buyer chose. (The shipping side is covered in Vinted shipping.)

What if the package is lost or comes back to the seller?

  • Lost in transit. Vinted says the order may still arrive within 25 business days of shipping, so it cannot start the investigation or refund process until the tracking status changes to "Parcel seems to be lost" or more than 25 business days have passed since it was shipped. The buyer then presses "I have an issue." If the loss is confirmed, the buyer is refunded.
  • Delivered but not received. The buyer reports it within the 2-day window after being notified of delivery, and Vinted's team reviews the claim, which can take several weeks.
  • Returned to sender. If a package comes back to you because the buyer did not pick it up or it could not be delivered, you mark the package as received and cancel the order, and Vinted refunds the buyer. If you do not, Vinted asks you to confirm receipt 14 calendar days after the shipment is marked "Return to sender," and you then have 2 days to confirm or report an issue.

What the seller can receive for a lost or damaged package depends on the label and carrier. The amounts and the conditions are in Vinted shipping.

When the buyer and seller cannot agree

Either side can ask Vinted to review the case. For a buyer, the path on Vinted's help pages is: open the conversation, press "View issue details," then "Contact us," read the refund terms, and press "Agree and submit." Vinted says it will get back within 48 hours. It may then ask the seller to take one of two actions within 2 days: request a return, or release the refund (in which case the order is canceled and the buyer is refunded without returning the item).

For a counterfeit claim, Vinted asks for photos of the whole item, the suspicious parts, the care label and the serial number, and says it may suspend the order while it reviews. With strong evidence that the item is counterfeit, it cancels the order and refunds the buyer, who does not have to return the item. Without it, Vinted considers the item authentic and completes the order. It also says it takes action against sellers who repeatedly sell counterfeit items.

How sellers can avoid returns and disputes

Nothing here is a trick. It is the same checklist that Vinted's own definition of SNAD points to:

  • Describe flaws and show them. Anything visible that the listing did not mention is a flaw Vinted can count against you.
  • Give measurements and the right size. Wrong size is on the SNAD list, and a measuring tape photo helps a buyer, and Vinted, see the real size.
  • Keep your proof. Photograph the item and the packed parcel, and keep your shipping receipt until the sale is complete.
  • Use the Vinted label and the buyer's chosen carrier. Vinted says sending with a different shipping method from the one the buyer chose can cancel the order.
  • Answer fast. Disputes need to be filed within 14 days of the suspension, and the buyer and seller each have short deadlines in a return.

Keep track of returns when you sell

A refund, a partial refund and a returned item all change what a sale really earned you, and they are easy to lose in a notes app. When Vinteer opens in the US, it will help Vinted and eBay sellers track sales, real profit and stock in one place, so that a refunded order shows up as a refunded order. FAQ

Conclusion

Vinted's return policy is a protection policy, not a store return policy. Buyers are covered for lost, damaged and significantly misdescribed orders for 2 days after delivery, and the buyer pays return shipping unless the seller covers it. For everything else, including fit, the seller decides. As a seller, the best defense is a listing that shows every flaw, photos of the packed parcel, and fast answers inside the deadlines. As a buyer, report quickly and with photos, and keep the packaging until the case is closed.
