What Can You Sell on Vinted? Allowed, Restricted and Banned Items (2026)

What can you sell on Vinted in the US? A category-by-category table of what is allowed, allowed with conditions and not allowed, sourced from Vinted's own rules.

A checklist of Vinted item categories with green checks for allowed items, amber marks for restricted items and red marks for banned items

On Vinted in the US you can sell second-hand and personal items in nine catalog categories: Women, Men, Designer, Kids, Home, Electronics, Books & Media, Hobbies & collectibles and Sports. Vinted bans counterfeits, used cosmetics, food, medicine, pointed knives, adult furniture, services and anything bought in order to resell, and it allows makeup, electronics, designer goods, handmade items and new items only on conditions. This guide goes category by category and item by item, with the Vinted rule behind every verdict, so you can check an item before you spend ten minutes photographing it.

Vinteer is not affiliated with Vinted

This guide summarizes Vinted's public Catalog Rules and Help Center pages for the US site (vinted.com) as read on November 7, 2026. Vinted can change what is allowed at any time and calls its lists guides rather than exhaustive, so when this page and the Help Center disagree, the Help Center wins.

If you want to know what sells fastest rather than what is permitted, read what sells best on Vinted. This page is the other half: what the rules let you list at all.

What can you sell on Vinted? The nine US categories

Vinted's US navigation shows nine top-level categories (Vinted: How it works). So when you ask "what can I sell on Vinted," these nine are the answer. The subcategories below come from the catalog tree on vinted.com, and the limits come from the Catalog Rules (the US version: it sets the maximum item value in dollars) and the category pages in the Help Center.

Vinted's Items not allowed page sums up the logic: "If your item doesn't fit into a catalog category, it might not be allowed on Vinted." That is the quickest test. If you cannot find a category for the item in the listing flow, treat it as banned until proven otherwise.

The rule that decides the gray areas: sell what you own

One rule explains most of the answers about new items, handmade items and bulk lots. Vinted's Commercial selling page says standard accounts "can't be used to sell items professionally," which "includes buying or sourcing items and reselling them at a profit." It adds that Vinted Pro "is not currently available in your country," so Vinted does not allow members "to sell as a business, on behalf of another business, or with the goal of making a profit." See Vinted Pro in the US.

In practice the page gives you four tests:

  • Did you get it for your own use? Brand-new items are fine if you "originally bought or acquired them for your own personal use," such as gifts or purchases that did not fit. New items "bought specifically to resell," including wholesale stock, bulk orders and retail purchases, are not allowed.
  • Is it really what you say it is? Vinted does not allow misrepresenting an item's "condition, origin, brand, or authenticity." Listing new items as second-hand is not allowed, and the photos must be ones you took of the actual item.
  • Is it a physical item you have right now? Services, rentals, items that "can be ordered" and items you do not currently own are not allowed.
  • Did you make it for sale? See the handmade section below.

Can you sell new items on Vinted?

Yes, with conditions: new items are allowed when they are your own, unwanted purchases or gifts, and not when they were bought to resell. The Commercial selling page treats "brand-new personal items" as fine. Vinted's condition guide defines "New" as a brand-new, unused, unopened item with all its original packaging and accessories, and "Like new" as brand-new and unused but opened or missing its original packaging. If you are unsure, the same page says it is better to choose the lower condition.

Two cautions. Some item types can only be sold new (sealed cosmetics, film, blank media, memory cards, printer ink and toner, razor and toothbrush heads, certain DIY consumables; details in the tables below). And the Catalog Rules mention "New with tags" and "New without tags" conditions, while the condition list on the US help page uses New and Like new. Vinted does not reconcile the two, so follow the condition options you see in the listing flow.

Can you sell handmade items on Vinted?

Only occasionally, and not as a business. The Commercial selling page says "Standard sellers may occasionally list items they have handcrafted or designed themselves," but Vinted does not allow standard members "to sell newly made or custom handmade goods as a business, on behalf of another business, or to earn a profit." The Catalog Rules say "a small number of unique handmade items is allowed, if this activity is occasional." Their commercial selling section is stricter than the Help Center: it lets standard sellers list "a small number of items that were handmade for personal use" and rules out "items that have been designed or handcrafted specifically to sell." Follow the stricter wording.

Three things are firmly out:

  • Made to order and customized items. The Commercial selling page lists "item customization or items created upon request" as a service, and the Hobbies & collectibles page names "handcrafted, custom-made, personalized, or modified items to order."
  • Handmade items in restricted categories. The Catalog Rules list handmade cosmetics, beauty products, electronics, sports items, furniture, electrical appliances and tools, kids' toys and decor, school supplies, strollers and carriers, and bathing, safety, pregnancy and feeding items as not allowed.
  • Handmade items that copy a brand. Handmade items that "resemble other brands and could be considered counterfeit" are banned.

Our reading, not Vinted's wording: a sweater you knitted for yourself and never wore is different from a run of sweaters made to sell. If your handmade work is becoming a business, our Vinted vs eBay comparison is a place to start looking.

Can you sell makeup, perfume and other cosmetics on Vinted?

Only if they are brand new and in their original packaging. The Women category has a Beauty section (Makeup, Perfume, Facial care, Beauty tools, Hand care, Nail care, Body care, Hair care) and Men has Grooming (including Aftershave and cologne and Makeup). The catalog is open, the rule is strict. Per the Catalog Rules, banned cosmetics are "all cosmetics (including perfume, makeup, creams, lotions, and hair-care products) and cosmetic accessories (makeup sponges, wipes, brushes or applicators) that have already been used or that are not in their original packaging," and "it is strictly prohibited to sell cosmetic items that have been used or tried, even once, or that are expired." Seals "must not be broken or removed."

Vinted's photo guide says "only brand-new cosmetics can be sold" and asks for at least 3 photos: the entire packaging from several angles, the batch number, close-ups, the receipt if you have it, and the barcode number. Also banned: samples, testers and promotional items "not intended for sale," cosmetics made by an unlicensed individual, skin and teeth bleaching products, cosmetics for animals, items with therapeutic claims, and cosmetics that are professional-use only, contain restricted ingredients or qualify as medicinal products.

Can you sell electronics on Vinted?

Yes: Electronics is one of the nine categories, and working devices are welcome, with a checklist. The Electronics category page lists phones, tablets and e-readers, TVs and home theater, audio and Hi-Fi, video game consoles and games, wearables, cameras and drones, computers and parts, smart home devices, 3D printers and chargers and cables.

What Vinted asks of you:

  • Wipe and disconnect the device. Delete personal data, remove linked accounts (Samsung, Google, Apple) and factory reset. "Locked or pass-restricted devices can't be sold on Vinted."
  • Say whether it is SIM locked and, for an iPhone, give the battery health shown in Settings (Uploading electronics).
  • Keep it safe. A plug-in or battery-powered device that gives off heat and has frayed or loose cables (or other damage) cannot be sold. Devices with swollen batteries are banned.
  • Show proof. Photos of the label, serial number or barcode and the full packaging (photo guide).

And what is out: jailbroken or rooted devices, devices blocked by a carrier or reported lost or stolen, individually listed SIM cards, software keys and digital games, video games with loot boxes, radar or frequency jammers, laser and lipolysis devices, solar energy stations, recalled electronics, modified or refurbished goods that no longer match the manufacturer's specifications, and devices with batteries over 100 Wh (Electronics category, Catalog Rules).

One inconsistency worth knowing: the condition guide offers "Needs repair" for electronics, defined as a device that "no longer works as intended, with broken or missing parts," while the Items not allowed page bans "non-functioning electrical appliances and electronic devices with visible damage." Vinted does not explain how the two fit together. We would not list a broken device, because the second page gives Vinted grounds to remove the listing.

Can you sell shoes, clothes and bags on Vinted?

Yes. This is the core of the catalog, and the rules are mostly about hygiene and authenticity. Women, Men and Kids all have Clothing and Shoes sections; Women has Bags and Accessories (jewelry, watches, sunglasses, belts), and Men has Accessories. Shoes have their own subcategories, from sneakers and boots to running shoes and cleats. We found no used-shoe restriction on the pages we read; the photo guide just asks for at least 3 photos of details such as the insole and outsole, stitching, size label, and the box or dust bag if you have one.

The limits that do apply:

  • Brands must be real. No counterfeits, replicas or "inspired by" listings (Authenticity and counterfeits).
  • No fur or exotic skin. Fur, shells, ivory and reptile, ostrich and camel skin are banned; leather, sheared sheep wool, cashmere and mohair are allowed.
  • Underwear is hygiene-gated. More below.

Can you sell designer and luxury items on Vinted?

Yes, with conditions: they must be authentic and you must prove it. The Designer category covers women's bags, shoes, accessories and clothing and men's shoes, accessories and clothing. Vinted says "when you list a luxury item, please provide proof of its authenticity" and may ask for it on other brands "popular targets for counterfeiters." Useful proof includes the receipt or invoice, certificate of authenticity, tags and care labels, serial or date codes and the original packaging. You also cannot add disclaimers like "not sure if authentic."

Vinted's paid authentication program, Item Verification, says it applies only once the service is introduced in your region and lists the countries where it is available today, and the United States is not among them. Treat your own photos and paperwork as the verification. Also note the platform-wide cap: "the maximum item value allowed on our platform is $1000 (USD)" (Catalog Rules).

One caution on worn socks. The Catalog Rules allow them when washed and described as worn, but the screen Vinted shows when you appeal a hygiene removal lists "used socks" next to used underwear. The two do not match, so worn socks are the item in this table most likely to be pulled.

Two notes where Vinted's pages do not line up. On bikes, the Catalog Rules ban "bikes, including but not limited to city, road, mountain and electric bikes" without saying "adult," yet the US Cycling category has a Kids' bikes branch (balance bikes, kids' bikes, tricycles) and no adult bike branch. We read that as adult bikes out, kids' bikes in. On instruments, the Items not allowed page lists "musical instruments for adults" under non-category items, while the Catalog Rules and the Hobbies & collectibles page list guitars, keyboards, drums and violins. Use the category in the listing flow as your test.

What is Vinted selling?

People also search "what is Vinted selling." Vinted itself does not sell the items. Its Commercial selling page describes the site as "mainly a place for members to buy and sell second-hand items with each other." Sellers list their own things, and Vinted charges sellers no selling fee in the US (How it works). The assortment is whatever the nine categories above contain.

What happens if you list a banned item?

Vinted's Catalog Rules describe three outcomes. A listing that needs changes is hidden and the seller is asked to fix it within 24 hours. A listing with a prohibited item is removed. Repeated violations can lead to a suspension (the page gives 7 days as an example) or a permanent block. Vinted also does not refund a Bump on a listing it has to hide or remove. The Listing was hidden or removed page lists other reasons for hiding: the wrong category, unclear or misleading price or condition, multiple unrelated brands, and low-quality photos. Fix a hidden listing and it becomes visible again; for a removed listing or blocked account you can appeal once, within 6 months of the decision, if the moderation message includes an appeal link (Listing was hidden or removed).

Photos and descriptions matter as much as the item. They must be photos you took of the actual item, not stock photos (Catalog Rules), and flaws must be shown and described (Uploading step by step).

FAQ

Conclusion

The short version: if an item has a catalog category, you own it, it is clean and safe, and it is not on the banned list, you can sell it on Vinted. Cosmetics, electronics, designer goods, handmade pieces and new items are allowed only with conditions, and anything bought to resell, anything made to order and anything counterfeit is out. When a rule is unclear, use the category in the listing flow and the Help Center as your tiebreaker, and see how Vinted works for sellers for the rest of the process and Vinted shipping for what happens after a sale.
