Who owns Vinted: founders, investors, the Vilnius headquarters and Vinted, Inc. in the US

Vinted has no single owner. It is a privately held company founded in 2008 in Vilnius, Lithuania, by Milda Mitkutė and Justas Janauskas, and today its shares are held by venture funds, large institutions, early investors and employees. In April 2026 a share sale valued the company at €8 billion. In the US, the company you agree to terms with is Vinted, Inc., which its US terms say is registered in Delaware, with an address in Wilmington. If you searched "Vinted Wilmington", that address in the US terms is the connection. So Vinted is not an American company, but the Vinted you use in the US is run through an American one.

Below is what Vinted itself publishes about who owns it, who runs it and where it is based, what it does not publish (founders' stakes, exact percentages), and what the history of its US presence looks like. Everything comes from Vinted's own pages unless it says otherwise.

This guide summarizes Vinted's newsroom, About page, careers page and US Terms and Conditions as read on November 7, 2026. Ownership, valuation and legal details can change, so check the sources linked below before you rely on them.

The investors Vinted names

Vinted's About page says its mission is "backed by leading venture capital firms from both sides of the Atlantic, including Accel, Burda Principal Investments, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Sprints." That list is a selection, not a cap table.

Two share sales in the newsroom name more:

  • April 27, 2026 (press release): a €880 million transaction led by existing investor EQT, which increased its shareholding, and new investors Teachers' Venture Growth (TVG), the late-stage venture platform of Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and Schroders Capital. New investors also included funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, Lombard Odier Investment Managers and Pinegrove Opportunity Partners. Baillie Gifford was one of several existing investors that increased their positions.
  • October 24, 2024 (press release): a €340 million sale at a €5 billion valuation, led by TPG, with Hedosophia, Baillie Gifford, Invus Opportunities, FJ Labs, Manhattan Venture Partners and Moore Strategic Ventures also taking part.

Vinted gives no percentages. Press articles that quote a stake for a given fund are estimates unless Vinted or the investor has confirmed them, and we did not use any of them here.

What a "secondary" share sale means

Both recent deals were secondary transactions: existing shareholders and employees sold shares to new buyers. Vinted says it is "not raising any new primary capital in this transaction" and that it "has been cash flow positive for several years," so the company itself did not receive the €880 million. The release says the sale gives liquidity to existing shareholders and employees, and notes the deal was significantly oversubscribed.

The practical effect for ownership is that the shareholder list gets longer and more institutional. Vinted describes the April deal as bringing in "institutional, long-term investors that can hold across private and public markets." That sentence describes the kind of investor, not a listing plan (see the IPO section below).

Vinted's valuation over time

Vinted's own pages give four reference points:

Date2019
Event€128 million Series E led by Lightspeed (careers page)
Valuation"over $1B", Lithuania's first unicorn
Date2021
EventLast fundraising round before 2024 (per the 2024 release)
Valuation€3.5 billion pre-money
DateOctober 2024
Event€340 million secondary led by TPG
Valuation€5 billion
DateApril 2026
Event€880 million secondary led by EQT, TVG and Schroders Capital
Valuation€8 billion in equity

The April valuation sits on top of the results Vinted reported for 2025: €10.8 billion of goods sold (up 47%), €1.1 billion of revenue and €62 million of net profit, across 26 markets. We break those numbers down, and what they do and do not say about how Vinted earns money, in How Does Vinted Make Money?. Vinted states the valuation in euros, so this guide does too.

Who founded Vinted and who runs it

Vinted's About page tells the origin story: "In 2008, our founder Milda Mitkute was moving but had too many clothes to take with her. Justas Janauskas offered help and built a website to give away her clothes to friends." The page lists the two as cofounders.

The same page lists the current leadership:

  • Thomas Plantenga is CEO of Vinted Group. He is quoted in the April 2026 release and the 2025 results.
  • Adam Jay is CEO of Vinted Marketplace, the business unit behind the app and website. He is the executive quoted in the January 22, 2026 announcement of the US launch.

The group has three business units: the marketplace, a shipping business (Vinted Go) and a payments business. Vinted's careers page puts the headcount at more than 2,200 people, and the About page says "more than 2,000".

Where Vinted is based

Vinted is headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania. Press releases are datelined Vilnius, and the careers page says the Group headquarters in Vilnius "coordinates operations across our three business units." It lists offices in Vilnius, Kaunas, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg and Paris.

That answers the question many people type, "is Vinted American?" No: it is a Lithuanian-founded company that calls itself Europe's leading online platform for second-hand clothing. Its US arm is a separate legal entity, covered next.

Which company runs Vinted in the US: Vinted, Inc.

Vinted's US Terms and Conditions (the banner on the page we read on November 7, 2026 said "New version applicable from 08-10-2026", which is October 8, 2026 in the day-month-year format Vinted used on the previous version, dated 18-12-2025) open with the identity of the contracting company:

  • "We're Vinted INC. We are registered in Delaware" with an address at 1000 N. West Street, Suite 1200, Wilmington, Delaware 19801.
  • "We also refer to Vinted Affiliates, which are all companies within our group."
  • Users must be residents of the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, at least 18 years old, and use the service for personal benefit only.
  • The terms say Vinted acts "as a hosting provider" that doesn't buy or sell items and isn't a party to transactions between members.
  • Disputes are governed by Delaware law, and the terms contain an arbitration agreement with a class action waiver. The terms say you can opt out of it within 30 days.

So if you sell in the US, your contract is with Vinted, Inc., not with the Lithuanian parent. The terms do not say how Vinted, Inc. is owned, and Vinted does not publish a group structure chart, so "a company within the Vinted group" is as far as the public pages go. This is general information, not legal advice; read the terms yourself for anything that matters.

Why is Vinted linked to Wilmington, Delaware?

Because the US terms give Wilmington as the address of Vinted, Inc. They say the company is "registered in Delaware" and that you can find it at 1000 N. West Street, Suite 1200, Wilmington, Delaware 19801. That is a legal address for the US contract (the place the terms point to for the company), not the Vinted headquarters. The group is run from Vilnius, and the careers page lists offices in Vilnius, Kaunas, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg and Paris, none of them in the US. The terms do not say whether the Wilmington address is an office, and Vinted does not explain it elsewhere. Vinted's January 2026 US launch release is datelined New York, but it does not say where a US team sits either.

When did Vinted start in the US?

Twice, in a sense.

2013. Vinted's careers page lists, under 2013: "Launched in France, Poland, Austria, and the USA." Counting the markets on that same timeline (it calls Spain in 2016 the ninth), the US was one of Vinted's first seven. TechCrunch, reporting on a funding round in January 2014, wrote that "Vinted launched in the U.S. in September 2013," and that the company planned to add to its staff in San Francisco as well as in Lithuania. Vinted's own pages do not explain what happened to that first US business afterward. The Next Web, in a June 2026 article, described Vinted as "maintaining a dormant presence there since 2013" before it began actively marketing in the US this year. That is press wording, not a Vinted statement, and no page we read gives a reason or a date for the pause.

January 22, 2026. Vinted's newsroom announced "Vinted has landed in New York". Adam Jay said, "In Europe, we've spent years helping people make money from their unwanted items... Now, we want to do the same in the US." The release also says sellers can list without paying selling fees. Vinted then announced a launch in Australia on July 1, 2026.

Vinted has not said. Its newsroom gives no US member, listing or sales figures that we could find. The January 22 release contains a survey (research with GWI of 1,502 US adults) about unworn clothes, not a count of US users. The 2025 results, which come before the launch, do not discuss the US at all.

What you can verify yourself is what the service looks like for sellers today: $0 selling fees, a buyer-paid Vinted fee, prepaid shipping labels. Our guide How Vinted works for sellers covers it.

Vinted IPO: what has been said

Vinted has not announced an IPO. Nothing in its newsroom sets a listing date, and the April 2026 release speaks only of investors who "can hold across private and public markets."

Two things were reported by the press, and are not Vinted announcements:

  • Bloomberg, in a November 15, 2024 article headlined "Second-Hand Marketplace Vinted Rules Out IPO for Now, CEO Says," quoted CEO Thomas Plantenga from an interview: "We're expanding into new countries and we're expanding our categories. We're taking a ton of risk." Bloomberg also reported him saying it is easier to deal with five or six investors than to appease a large shareholder base. That was 2024, before the April 2026 share sale.
  • The Next Web, covering a June 2026 interview with Adam Jay, wrote that Jay declined to comment on the timing or location of a potential listing.

Treat anything more specific, such as a date, an exchange or a price, as speculation.

Vinted founders' net worth

We found no reliable figure, and Vinted publishes none. A founder's net worth would depend on the size of the stake they still hold, and Vinted does not disclose shareholdings. Multiplying a valuation by a guessed percentage produces a number with nothing behind it. If a site gives you a precise net worth for Milda Mitkutė or Justas Janauskas, it is an estimate, and you should check what it is based on.

What ownership means for you as a seller

Probably less than the headlines suggest. Your fees are set by the price list and your contract is with Vinted, Inc.; who holds shares in the group does not change either of them. What does matter is that Vinted is profitable and says it is not raising primary capital, but fees can change, so check the Vinted fee calculator and the price list from time to time. Whatever the platform does, you still need your own record of what each item earned: Vinteer will help Vinted and eBay sellers track sales, real profit and stock when it opens in the US, and you can join the waitlist.

FAQ

Conclusion

Vinted is a privately held group from Vilnius with a long list of institutional shareholders, a €8 billion valuation from April 2026 and no announced listing. Its founders, Milda Mitkutė and Justas Janauskas, are named on its About page, but the size of their stakes is not public, and neither is any reliable figure for their wealth. In the US, you deal with Vinted, Inc., a Delaware company, and the platform has been relaunched there only since January 2026, so its US numbers are still to come.
