Is Vinted Legit in the UK? Reviews, Safety and Scams for UK Buyers and Sellers (2026)
Is Vinted legit in the UK? Who runs it, what the App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot ratings say, how protection works, which scams to watch for and what to do if you are scammed.

Yes, Vinted is legit in the UK: it is run by a registered UK company, Vinted Platform Limited, and an order paid with the "Buy now" button is covered by a written refund policy. It is not risk-free, though, and public opinion is sharply split. As of 7 November 2026, the UK App Store rates the Vinted app 4.9 out of 5 from about 3.78 million ratings, while Trustpilot scores vinted.co.uk 2.9 out of 5 from 76,275 reviews, with 46% giving 5 stars and 44% giving 1 star. Both numbers are real, and neither tells you how likely a single order is to go wrong. The scams Vinted itself documents mostly try to get you to leave the app, click a link or pay outside "Buy now". This guide gives you the dated figures, what Vinted's own rules promise, where those promises stop, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Is Vinted legit? The short answers
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Is Vinted a real company? | Yes. In the UK your contract is with Vinted Platform Limited, an active private limited company at 5 New Street Square, London (Companies House number 15015234). The wider group, Vinted Group, started in Lithuania in 2008. |
| Is it a scam website? | No. It is an established marketplace that pays sellers and refunds buyers under written rules. Some members, however, do scam other members. |
| Is buying protected? | Yes, if you pay with "Buy now". You have 2 calendar days after the delivery notice to report a problem. Payments outside the app are not covered. |
| Is selling protected? | Partly. The buyer's money is held until the order completes, and lost or damaged parcels can be compensated up to £500 on a Vinted label. Some Trustpilot reviewers describe disputes and bans as unfair, and we cannot verify individual cases. |
| Are the reviews good? | It depends on where you look: 4.9 on the UK App Store, 4.2 on Google Play (worldwide listing), 2.9 on Trustpilot. |
| What do people complain about most? | Trustpilot's automated topic summary singles out customer service and delivery. Individual reviews we read also mention account bans. Vinted publishes no figure for any of these. |
Who runs Vinted in the UK?
Vinted's UK terms and conditions (version applicable from 8 October 2026) say: "We're Vinted Platform Limited", with an address at 5 New Street Square, London EC4A 3TW, under company number 15015234. You can check that yourself on the Companies House record. On 7 November 2026 it showed the company as active, incorporated on 20 July 2023, with accounts made up to 31 December 2025 filed on 2 September 2026. Companies House says it does not check the accuracy of the information filed, so the record shows that the company exists and files accounts, not that it behaves well. Its only listed person with significant control is Vinted Limited (company number 07874344), also registered at 5 New Street Square.
The wider business, which Vinted calls Vinted Group, is based in Vilnius. Vinted's own About page says the business began in 2008, when founder Milda Mitkute was moving and had too many clothes, and Justas Janauskas built a website to give them away. It says more than 2,000 people work from its headquarters in Lithuania and offices across Europe. The group's 2025 results release (9 April 2026) reports €10.8 billion of goods traded, €1.1 billion in revenue and a net profit of €62 million. Those are group-wide figures, mostly European, not a measure of the UK business. For the full ownership picture see who owns Vinted, and for how the company earns that revenue see how Vinted makes money.
Two details matter for trust:
- Vinted is a host, not a party to your deal. The UK terms say that as a hosting provider Vinted does not buy or sell items and is not a party to any transaction. Its refund policy is a commitment on top of that, with conditions.
- Your money is handled by regulated payment firms. The terms name MANGOPAY U.K. Limited, MANGOPAY SA and Vinted Pay Limited as wallet providers, and describe Vinted Pay Limited as a UK electronic money institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Vinted says the buyer's payment sits in a separate escrow account controlled by the wallet provider until the order is completed.
What the ratings say (read on 7 November 2026)
| Source | Rating | Volume | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store, UK storefront | 4.9 out of 5 (4.897) | About 3.78 million ratings | People who rated the app on the UK store |
| Google Play | 4.2 out of 5 (4.21) | About 2.45 million ratings | One worldwide listing, not UK-only |
| Trustpilot, vinted.co.uk | 2.9 out of 5, labelled "Average" | 76,275 reviews | 46% give 5 stars, 44% give 1 star, and 4%, 3% and 3% give 4, 3 and 2 stars |
Three things are worth taking from this table.
The ratings do not measure the same people. The Apple figure is limited to the UK store, the Google Play listing is global, and Trustpilot collects reviews from people who chose to write one. None of them is a count of UK orders that went well or badly, and Vinted publishes no such rate.
Trustpilot's split is unusual. Only about 10% of its reviews sit between 2 and 4 stars, against 44% at 1 star and 46% at 5. People tend to use a review site either to complain or to praise, so it tells you who writes there more than how a typical order goes. In the same way, a 4.9 app rating comes from people who stayed in the app long enough to rate it, which leaves out those who gave up or were banned.
The complaints cluster. Trustpilot's AI-generated summary, based on 20,519 recent reviews when we read it, says most reviewers were "somewhat happy" overall and found the platform easy to use. Its topic panel is more negative on two points: customer service (reviewers "expressing deep frustration over the lack of human" contact) and delivery (Trustpilot reports "profound dissatisfaction"). We cannot verify individual reviews, and the summary is automated, so use it as a map of where the friction is, not as a measurement.
Vinted reviews on Reddit and forums
If you search "Vinted reddit" you will find threads such as "Is Vinted worth it and legit?" on Reddit, and forum threads on Mumsnet and MoneySavingExpert such as "Vinted - is it safe? Read many negative reviews and am wary". They show which questions people ask, but they are anecdotes: one side of a story, impossible to check, and some of them years old. We draw no statistic from them.
How member reviews work on Vinted itself
Members rate each other. Per Vinted's feedback page, feedback can only be left after an order is completed, and not for members you have not traded with, so the star average on a profile comes from real orders. Three details matter when you read one:
- Automatic feedback exists. If a buyer leaves nothing within 4 days, the seller gets positive automatic feedback. An order that is not shipped on time, or that either member cancels manually, produces automatic negative feedback.
- Vinted does not review feedback before it is published. It only edits or removes automatic feedback or feedback that breaks its Community Standards or the law.
- Averages count every entry. The average is total stars divided by the number of entries, and repeat feedback from the same person counts each time.
Before you buy, open the seller's Reviews tab, check how recent the entries are, and read the written comments rather than only the average. Vinted's buying tips also suggest checking the seller's profile description and verified information.
Is Vinted safe to buy from?
Vinted's protection is tied to one rule: you must pay inside the app. Its refund policy applies to purchases made with the "Buy now" button. If you pay outside Vinted's system, the page says you "won't be covered" and Vinted cannot offer you support. The UK terms say the same: a purchase made outside the site "is made at your own risk".
What the policy covers and how it works:
- Eligible problems. An order that was never shipped or is lost, that arrived damaged, or that is significantly not as described (including a missing item from a bundle and a suspected counterfeit).
- The clock. After Vinted tells you the order should have been delivered, or seems lost, you have 2 calendar days to press "I have an issue". If you say nothing or confirm that everything is OK, your payment goes to the seller and Vinted says it can no longer help with a refund. Pressing "Everything is OK" is final, so open the parcel first.
- Your money while it is disputed. After you report an issue the order is suspended and, Vinted says, your payment is held safely until the issue is resolved.
- Evidence. Take photos of the item and the problem, the outer and inner packaging and any visible damage, and keep the packaging until it is settled.
- Returns. You may be asked to send the item back within 5 business days of the seller requesting it. The buyer pays return shipping unless agreed otherwise, and a refund for a returned item includes the item price, the Vinted fee and the original shipping fee.
- Counterfeits. If you doubt an item is authentic, you press "Provide proof" and send photos of the whole item, suspicious parts, the care label and the serial number. Vinted says it replies within 48 hours. If there is strong evidence that the item is fake, it cancels the order and refunds you without a return. If it sees no strong evidence, its help page says it treats the item as authentic and releases the payment. Its terms say something different for ambiguous cases: the order is cancelled, you are refunded, and you return the item and pay return postage unless agreed otherwise. They also give the seller 48 hours to prove authenticity when there is strong evidence of a fake. The two pages do not match and we cannot say which one Vinted applies, so keep every photo.
- Optional checks. For eligible designer items of £85 or more, buyers can add Item Verification for £10 per item, an authenticity check that Vinted says is free for sellers. Electronics Verification costs £5 per item on eligible orders, and Vinted says it is sometimes included at no extra cost.
The limits are real:
- A change of mind is not covered. If an item matches its listing but does not fit or suit you, it is not eligible under the refund policy. You can ask the seller to accept a return, but it is their decision. Buying from a Pro seller is different: Vinted says you then have a legal right of withdrawal, with 14 days from receiving the order to decide. Vinted's pages disagree on whether the refund policy also covers Pro sellers: the refund policy page says it applies to standard members, not Pro sellers, while the right-of-withdrawal page and the buying safely page say Pro orders are covered by it.
- Minor differences are not covered. Only items that are significantly not as described qualify.
- Vinted is not an insurer. Its terms say the refund policy is not an insurance or legal protection service and sits alongside your other legal rights, and that nothing in the terms affects your rights as a consumer.
The Vinted fee, paid by the buyer, is what Vinted says helps fund these services. It says the fee is usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80, includes VAT and is shown in the price breakdown and at checkout. Sellers pay no selling fee. Our Vinted fees guide and the Vinted fee calculator show what that means at different prices.
Is Vinted safe to sell on?
For sellers, the same logic applies: money moves through Vinted, and Vinted decides what happens when an order goes wrong.
- Payment timing. The buyer's payment sits in your pending balance. Once the buyer presses "Everything is OK", or 2 days after they receive the order without reporting anything, the order is completed and you are paid within 2 days (getting paid). A bank withdrawal then takes up to 5 business days (withdrawals).
- Identity checks. Vinted's payment providers (Vinted Pay or Mangopay) can ask for ID as part of mandatory "Know Your Customer" checks on your Vinted Balance, and withdrawals are paused until you complete them. Vinted describes this as a legally required procedure.
- Shipping deadline. You have 5 business days to ship, with an extension of 3 or 5 more business days if the buyer accepts. If you miss it, the order is cancelled automatically. Always use the carrier the buyer chose, or tracking will not update and the order is cancelled. See Vinted postage explained.
- Lost or damaged parcels. On a Vinted label, compensation is capped at £500, only once the carrier confirms the loss or damage and only if the parcel was properly packed. Vinted adds that investigations can take several weeks (compensation).
- Disputes. When a buyer reports an issue, the seller can grant a refund or ask for the item back, and if the two sides cannot agree, Customer Support makes the final decision. Photograph the packed item and keep your proof of postage.
- Fees. Vinted says there are no fees for listing or selling an item (is Vinted free?).
Standard accounts are for your own second-hand items, not for sourcing stock
Vinted's commercial selling rules say standard accounts cannot be used to sell items professionally, which "includes buying or sourcing items and reselling them at a profit", and that anyone who sells to make a profit needs to sign up as a Pro seller. Brand-new stock bought to resell is not allowed for anyone, Pro sellers included. Selling for commercial purposes is also a listed reason for temporary and permanent bans. See Vinted Pro in the UK and Vinted and HMRC for how this works. General information, not tax advice. Vinteer is not affiliated with Vinted.
Sellers who clear their own wardrobe, ship on time with the Vinted label and keep proof are the ones the system is built to pay. New to selling? How to sell on Vinted walks through listing, postage and payment.
Vinted scams in the UK and how to avoid them
Scams are the second pillar of the complaints. Vinted's phishing and scam page is the best official reference, and it lists real phishing messages members received: in-app messages asking you to email someone, open a link or scan a QR code, fake emails asking you to click to confirm a sale, texts to your phone, and fake Vinted support websites asking for payment details.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| A member asks you to chat on another app, email them, open a link or scan a QR code | Stay on Vinted. Vinted says to avoid leaving the app to contact others or send payments. |
| A message that rushes you, or says your account or order will be blocked unless you act now | Treat the urgency as the warning sign and do not open the link. |
| A buyer or seller offers a deal outside "Buy now", such as a direct bank transfer | Say no. Vinted says such purchases are not protected and it cannot offer support. |
| An email or text that claims to be Vinted | Vinted says its genuine emails come from an address ending in @vinted.co.uk and official updates come from its Vinted account with a unique badge. Forward phishing emails to phishing@vinted.com. |
| A request for your email, phone number or address in a chat | You do not need to share them. Vinted uses the details in your profile to complete a transaction. |
| A parcel that is empty, wrong or damaged | Do not press "Everything is OK". Press "I have an issue" within 2 days and send photos of the item and the packaging. |
| A designer item at a price that seems too good | If you doubt it after delivery, press "Provide proof" and send the photos Vinted asks for. |
| A buyer claims your item arrived damaged or different | Reply with your packing photos and proof of postage, and let Customer Support decide if you disagree. |
Vinted also says it cannot be held responsible for losses resulting from scams or phishing, which is one more reason to keep every step inside the app.
What to do if you are scammed on Vinted
- Report it to Vinted. Use "Contact us" on the phishing page, or forward phishing emails to phishing@vinted.com. Include screenshots, the member's username or profile link, the sender's email address or phone number and any bank transfer details you were given. You can also report a member, listing, message or review from the app (how to report).
- Secure your accounts. Vinted advises freezing affected bank accounts and cards, changing passwords where you can still log in, and adding multi-factor authentication. If you think your Vinted account was taken over, follow its hacked account steps: contact Vinted, check Settings and Security, log out of unknown devices, change your password and turn on 2-step verification.
- Ask your bank. Vinted tells you to check with your bank whether a wrongly sent payment can be reverted. Citizens Advice also suggests paying by debit or credit card where you can, because it gives extra protection if things go wrong, and says that if someone phones to pressure you, you should hang up and call 159 to reach your bank.
- Report the crime. If you lost money or were hacked because of an online scam, GOV.UK says to contact Report Fraud if you are in England or Wales, online or on 0300 123 2040. If you are in Scotland, report it to Police Scotland. Report Fraud is the national service run by City of London Police that, per a GOV.UK notice, replaced Action Fraud from 4 December 2025, and the phone number stayed the same.
- Forward suspicious messages. GOV.UK also asks you to forward suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk and suspicious texts, free, to 7726.
Account bans and restrictions: what Vinted says
Since bans are one of the most repeated complaints, here is what Vinted's banned account page says. We describe the rules, not any specific case.
- Temporary bans last 7 to 30 days and cover offensive behaviour, inappropriate pictures, repeatedly selling prohibited items, selling counterfeits, promoting selling outside Vinted's payment system, and selling for commercial purposes on a non-Pro account.
- Permanent bans cover fraud or scamming other members, multiple accounts (except one standard and one Pro account with different emails and phone numbers), repeatedly selling counterfeits, repeated Catalogue Rules breaches and repeated commercial selling, among others. For commercial selling, Vinted says it will require you to convert to Vinted Pro where applicable, within 6 months of the ban notice.
- Appeals. The appeal link is in the moderation message. You can appeal once, within 6 months, and the page also mentions certified out-of-court dispute bodies and national courts. The terms add that Vinted will tell you in writing when it takes a corrective action, unless doing so would break the law or disrupt a fraud investigation.
- Money. A permanently banned member can still contact Vinted and, in some cases, withdraw their balance, but not when it would pose a risk to other members, the account is compromised or the ban is due to a risk of fraud.
Some reviewers say they did not understand why they were banned. Nobody outside Vinted knows the share of members who are banned, and Vinted publishes no UK figure. If you are banned, use the appeal, include evidence, stay polite and do not open a second account. For help reaching a person, see how to contact Vinted customer service. Vinted's safety page says "you can reach out to us 24/7", while Trustpilot's customer service summary points to a lack of human contact. Both are on the record, and we cannot reconcile them.
Is Vinted worth it for you?
It makes sense for a buyer if you shop for everyday second-hand items, always use "Buy now", check the parcel before confirming and are comfortable photographing a problem within 2 days. Consider paying by card where the checkout offers it, and ask your card issuer what protection it gives.
It makes sense for a seller if you are clearing out your own items, are happy with no selling fee and can follow the rules to the letter: accurate photos and descriptions, authentic items, shipping within 5 business days, everything inside the app.
Think twice if you need a guaranteed human response, plan to sell high-value items without receipts, or need predictable income. Reviewers and the platform's own rules show that one dispute or one moderation decision can cost you an order or an account.
Because disputes are won with evidence, keep your own record of each sale: the listing, the photos, the proof of postage and what you earned. FAQ
Conclusion
Vinted is legit in the UK: a registered company, regulated payment partners and a written refund policy. It is also a marketplace of strangers, and its ratings are split. Pay only with "Buy now", keep every conversation in the app, photograph problems within the 2-day window and treat any message that pushes you to click, scan or transfer as a scam until proven otherwise. Vinted can change its rules and fees at any time, so check the screen in front of you.
